Behold the question that echoes through the realm of heroes and legends: What truly defines greatness is it the daring Brave Dub Knight, who commands the battlefield with English Syncro in the gaming arena? Or the honorable Sub Samurai, steadfast in his devotion, who wields only the Japanese Syncro, reading subtitles with unwavering focus? or are you even a Sub/Dub Mercenary refusing to take sides and choosing the most convenient option for your taste at certain times ? The choice is yours valor, honor, or fidelity. The battle for the realm of gaming begins now!

I tried to make it more entertaining.
The question to put it simply is if you use English or Languages Dub or if you only use the Japanese Syncro and prefer to read subtitles or if you switch up between this two.

I like to watch/play things in their original language, since they were written for/with that language in mind -- movies like Talvisota (Finnish) and Stalingrad (German) are best experienced that way, too.

Plus, subtitles have come a long way since the pioneer days of translation.

Always original language dub with English sub when available, bar some specific games for specific reasons.

It would highly depend for me normally I prefer to have a good dub especially with much action on the screen as reading would distract me from the action and it would get annoying but when the dub is to terrible I just go with the Original Syncro and activate the Subtitles.
I know also that it is possible to read subtitles and no miss the action I was there and I did it.

Sub Samurai, though occasionally something like Cromartie High School (if we bring the conversation from gaming to anime) will make me rethink my position.

Also, Samurai > Knights

Oh please don't turn this thread into Knight vs Samurai debate people can get very passionate about this.

It depends on the game and setting. I tend to disable subtitles to enhance my immersion but if it's a game like Yakuza or Ghost of Tsushima I make the exception.

The German dub is also quite good for Ghost of Tsushima
from the Intro

The Dub can just sound quite good here for example Liberty Prime from Fallout 3 once in Original Murican English and one in German
wich do you prefer
And here just the Japanese version for fun

I'm not really anti-dub as I like people having options, but this sums up why I generally prefer subs for non English shows, movies, or video games

Always the original language for the most part and I'm not against either to be frank, I do some exceptions though like playing Metaphor with the English cast for the immersion or any fighting game where I'm fine with either option.

It totally depends, like was mentioned earlier with Cromartie. That might be the best dub ever. But a case by case basis for me, always english subtitles so I can read it in case the audio gets too low for my old man hearing, though.

Can I just say something?

I am sick of the "SUBS vs. DUBS" debate. Both have their pros & cons. I've seen great dubs and I've seen bad dubs. I've seen anime with fairly standard JP voice acting and others that are phenomenally good. Neither side outweighs the other.

Sometimes, I like to watch both versions of an anime and regardless of which audio I prefer, I still have fun watching the series — and that's the most important part. Just view the series in whatever way you prefer, have fun, and don't ridicule those whose views clash with yours; because that's cringe.

Besides ultimately there is only two types of opinions my opinions and wrong opinions ;) nah no matter dub or sub what you like matters the most for you to enjoy the media after all

At the end of the day, it doesn’t really matter who prefers which version.
Just watch the one that tickles your fancy, and if you can even manage to play a game you can't read more power to you. It’s not like it affects anyone else, except maybe your fragile ego.

So really the question is utterly inconsequential

I will say I prefer English I can focus more on what happens if I don´t have to read.
I use subs when no dub exist.

And any one saying you a true fan watch in the original language is just a dumb and silly purist and should stfu. I watch how ever the Frack I want that works best for me.

Generally speaking, I say subs, as Waffles said I prefer to look my fiction in its original state.
On the other hand, for me the best english voice acting usually comes from games, movies, series originally on english, like VTM bloodlines, Deus Ex, The Batman animated series, etc or dubs that go for more of a creative approach like Ghost Stories.
English voice acting is also very prone to censorship, while dubs in my native language are far more clean, an example of this could be Sailor Moon and Sakura card captor and the "tone down" of Lesbian undertones.
