Are There No More Genres?

I feel like it's all been done. We have RPG's, platformers, racing games, farming sims, etc. What else is there? We've reached a point where hybrids are a thing now (my first thought is Deltarune, an RPG/bullet hell hybrid)

What new genres could possibly happen?

Tenho a impressão de que já exploramos todos os gêneros. Temos RPGs, jogos de plataforma, jogos de corrida, simuladores de fazenda, etc. O que mais existe? Chegamos a um ponto em que os híbridos estão em alta (meu primeiro pensamento é Deltarune, um híbrido de RPG e bullet hell).

Game genres have never been very descriptive. The Genres "Action" and "Adventure" almost have no meaning. There's always new things that can be done with games, we just don't always have a good way to describe them.

Nobody is paying me anything except a bit of attention. People like you because you're nice, and in today's world full of douchebags that makes you a person that people want around.

Back on topic: I think VR could provide some new things, but I'm not a fan of VR (easy motion sickness)

Voltando ao assunto: acho que a realidade virtual pode trazer algumas novidades, mas não sou fã (tenho facilidade em enjoar com movimentos).

I will never put that thing on my head! I'm not trying to get trapped in a game world having to kill Lvl. 2 Slimes for years just so I can level up safely.

Thinking on new genres isn't jiving with me. Instead I'm looking around thinking about making video games out of other stuff, like an Etch-a-Sketch (using the joysticks like the nobs, but yeah...)

I wouldn't mind developers bring back creative genres of the past like Trap Gunner's strategy-versus hybrid. or how about local (or online) cooperative action-puzzle games like Kuri Kuri Mix 'The Adventures of Cookie & Cream'. or competitive versus shoot'em up /shmup like Twinkle Star Sprites (Rival Megagun did something similar) you can add puzzle elements or rhythm sections in them for example.

New genres happen every now and then. Minecraft is a new genre (don't even know what to call it). Games like REPO and Peak are a new genre (friend slop).

You could even make the argument that Deltarune is a new type of RPG in which being a part of the community and waiting for new chapters to come out is more fun than the game itself.

There are new genres happening if you know where to look.

That's why I find the term *name*-like more useful to categorize games, it gives a clearer image right away.

Instead of calling something inspired by this as "Grid Based Card Action RPG", just call it Battle Network -like. Same as every other scenario because game gender names are too vague for specific types of games.

I used to think it had all been done before. And that was twenty years ago!! Then I played Katamari Damacy. Kinda restored my love for gaming and gave me hope that we might still get some unique titles in the future, after all

Lifeline for the PS2 does that.
