Are there any games where you've developed unforgettable muscle memory?

Stepmania for me. It's a rhythm game I've played since 2015 or so. I've had very long pauses from playing it, but the muscle memory is still there for the most part (It's not the same for my stamina though lol)

Other than that, it's been years since I played any smash game, but a friend invited me to play Ultimate a month ago, and I saw that I still remembered how to play as Marth! He was also the character I probably had less trouble using during the whole session.

Racing and Platforming, two of these genre made my hands sweating, but sometimes it feels like it moved on it's own. I didn't really noticed it until recently, automatic mechanism?

Damn you reminded me of patapon .I wonder if I'm still good

Yeah and sometimes the automatic thing is too good that it plays on its own
Like I get distracted mid game yet still doing fine

Sonic 3 & Knuckles. I've played this game so many times it's gotten to the point where I know exactly where each giant ring zone is located and what the secret paths are.

Definitely in fighting games, I cannot unlearn 'back to block' and SF style cancels and stuff. I have a really hard time with Tekken and the dedicated block button MK's because I'll subconsciously start holding down-back without even realizing it.

Guilty Gear, Crash Bandicoot and the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater series for sure. The latter is so hard-wired I can't play the games on anything but a Dualshock controller.

Fighting games in general, I'd say, but, more broadly, Monster Hunter. Though I didn't play it when the series was new (it released circa 2004), it is my favorite action RPG franchise by a huge margin and by now a lot of the gameplay has become muscle memory to me.

If the screen we are viewing this on were connected in terms of spacetime dimensions, you could give me a joystick or an arcade stick and I would be able to replicate all of Kusanagi Kyo and Yagami Iori's moves from the Orochi saga, but also those of Ryo and Robert EX to be honest.

That's pretty much what fighting games are, right? Practiced muscle memory, so you can focus on the opponent without trying to remember inputs.

I can still clear Super Punch Out in one go at the drop of a hat, or THPS2 for that matter.

Monster Hunter series on PSP. I had a really bad time when i needed to play it on PC with a Xbox controller man, my brain almost exploded cuz of the new D-pad and analog positions and in the end I couldn't get used to it

Thankfully I had the privilege of not suffering due to the PSPs hardware limitations when enjoying Monster Hunter. I'm sure my enjoyment would have been severely impacted if I had to use the claw.

How could they think just one analog was fine?

Dark souls 2,3, Ninja Gaiden, Gta5, Max Payne 3, Batman Arkham series and couple other games I always go back to and put ungodly hours I could stop playing them for years and prolly still come back and pick it up. Definitely won’t be as good but I’ll remember the layout 😹

Mine is "Metal Gear Rising Revengeance". I unlocked both muscular memory and psdt when I did the Stormbringer Achivement on steam

It's always funny killing Mistral in one hit thanks to the parry 😅

And also another is the Dead Rising franchise but specially 1. It's a game that I always replay at least a year

I remember that I watched Zombie 2 when I played like 16 hours a Zombie game just for that achivement. The worst thing is that is easy.

I think there are two games for me: Mortal Kombat 9 and Mega Man (the classic NES series), both in terms of difficulty, but in MM my muscle memory is in the order of the bosses.

Facts on the dead rising for me it’s dead rising 2

Sonic 3 and Knuckles-2D sections are mastered pretty much, can get Perfects on all 7 standard emeralds. The bigger dream, one of these days, is to get Perfects on all 14 Emeralds, including the 7 Super emeralds.

Megaman X4-Another cozy 2D classic game for me. I have mastery over the Maverick fights in which I can pull off certain tricks on them, making the fights even funner by "taunting" them with those techniques.

I have many more favorite games, but these 2 I got down pat in particular so that's why I wrote about them for this thread.
