Ok, so I've been playing my way through Valkyrie Profile Lenneth on the PSP and I was thinking about eventually playing one of the other games. (i.e. 2, Covenant of the Plume, Elysium)

I want to know if playing any of them are worth it and if there are any tips you have for them.

Yes they are specially 2, it has a very fun combat system and is a great upgrade of the first game in gameplay, covenant of the plume is an strategy rpg and is kinda hard but still not a bad game to check and Elysium I don't have play it yet.

I have only played Valkyrie Profile Lenneth, and Covenant of the Plume.
Personally i enjoyed the Covenant of the Plume more than the first game.
The story takes place before the events of the first game, and there are some hard decisions to make.
The combat system is a mixture of the first game's mechanics and a strategy-map format... it actually works quite nice in my opinion.

Glad everybody's on the same page here haha. VP2 is an absolutely fantastic game & 100% worth playing!

Story-wise VP2 may fall a bit short compared to the first one, but its easily a Top 5 action-rpg game, while also being a Top 5 best-looking game on the system. The game has crazy layers of depth, build customization & replayability.

Covenant of the Plume is also worthy of being a Valkyrie Profile title. The game is (surprisingly) hard but the combat is addicting. Movement is SRPG but the core combat kinda uses a combination of 1 with hints of 2.
Art is great & the OST is more or less a remix of Lenneth's.

Elysium is disappointing. I think the studio that developed it didn't have a budget to work with, because it largely feels like an unfinished game. But the combat is still fun, & actually found myself labing combos a few times.
Story is a rehash of 1 & OST is forgettable. No awesome post-game content. The free DLC was a bummer. Definitely not worth the full price they're asking.

Oddly enough Star Ocean: The Divine Force from actual Tri-Ace gave me exactly what I wanted from this game though!

I'll just say this, there is a sorta indie copycat to the series called Indivisible....I didn't enjoy it.(others might)
Wait till it is on sale around 5$ if you want to try it.
Oof, I remember Indivisible. Unfortunate casualty of what happened to Lab Zero games, I think they even cut off making physical copies for it a few years back

Covenant of the Plume DS is much better than 2 Silmeria at being a VP game. It really nailed all the intricates of the first game despite changing the gameplay to tile-based strategy.

I always thought Covenant was a great example of a game I *respect* more than I *enjoy*. The core mechanic of sacrificing comrades permanently - the bridge to your revenge being built on the bones of betrayed friends - is a wild idea, and one that the game supports with an almost unreasonable difficulty.

The actual play is mostly a by-the-numbers DS strategy RPG, which were a dime a dozen at the time, and all of your most interesting combat options are locked behind spending several missions to befriend a new character and then burying them. Thematically that's very cool, but in practice it's a little boring until you've played through a couple times, and the only thing it has over games like FFTA is the combo system - it's cool looking, but ganging up on a single enemy with multiple units is already how you play this sort of game in the first place.

I'd still say try it out if you enjoy the setting and style of the series, but maybe don't buy it like I did.

Indivisible promised many things at first, failed to accomplish many. The overall quality of the game is ok'ish, I would rather recommend Exist Archive over Indivisible, although many people wouldn't agree :)

valkyria profile silmeria
its a nice upgrade system from the first game

covenant of the plume
is really great game with good story

elysium
good game. just hate that its more hack and slash game
it really ruines the valkyrie profile series.
still i did like playing elysium but its just so different from the other games

2 is worth looking into. Covenant of the plume is interesting but is a real time sink, even compared to the other games. It being a Tactics RPG also means that battles can be pretty long.

Elysium is interesting. It feels cheap but I think it gets a lot more flak from ppl than it deserves. I certainly found a lot of fun when playing it but it is true that it doesn't feel very "valkryie"

Honestly what I dislike about Silmeria is that the dungeons are how the story pretty much being solely focused around Dipan's event of VP1 though at least they're pretty consistent (and the VP1 Ending connection halfway thru the end is basically just created as an afterthought) and the dungeons are just simply way too long and grindy to even bother finishing. Coupled with the fact that most of the Einherjars bar the main unsendable ones are pretty much generic cookie cutter soldiers without proper backstory unlike VP1, and you get the absolutely mediocre VP game aside of the improved graphics and gameplay, which is actually laughably easy and become painfully boring after awhile thanks to dungeons and enemies issues above.

Like I said before, Covenant of the Plume does the VP1 job much better than Silmeria could ever do despite being a tile-based strategy game.
You can just Plume Kill everyone to get the C ending first time, then aim for B and A ending next playthroughs with those broken Plume Skills carryover to make the game much easier and bearable if you find the enemies quite difficult.
