This is a popular Korean RPG that was translated and localized for Japan by Nihon Falcom on June 28, 2003. This translation is based off of that localization. There were plans to bring the game to western audiences. Those plans never came to fruition, although an official English demo exists. It's been widely speculated that this game is what helped inspire Falcom to develop Trails in the Sky. Translation Credits: Released by: Helly Language: English Status: 90% Complete (some misc. pictures with text weren't able to be worked on) Patch Version: not numbered Date: 30 April 2018 Source and details: https://www.romhacking.net/forum/index.php?topic=23958.0 […]

Does anyone have the manual for the controls or know where I can change the controls?

That would be the D3D8.dll Right?

And by the other exe do you mean the ArcExe?
Yeah, those ones. It wouldn't hurt moving all the .dll into it for good measure, but I think it only uses that one. I'd have to look in my folder but my laptop is turned off right now

Just place the .dll for DX8 from the MS/x86 folder in dgVoodoo into the game install directory along with the exe and conf file for dgVoodoo and configure it. If you set the specified resolution in dgVoodoo to whatever resolution you want then that option will appear as a resolution option in the Arcturus config for the game. Set it in that and save it but launch the game using the other exe instead. Since the nocd fix isn't read through the config and it'll ask for the DVD to be inserted if you launch it from the config

Your DGVoodoo link leads to a 404, as does the downloads section of the site.

Also, is it a problem if I already followed the guide and already did the DX8 install?

Edit: Found the DGVoodoo github and got it there.

Don't need to install DX8, just used DGVoodoo and can play at 1920x1080 no problems at all. It converts DX8 calls to more modern DX. Setting compatibility on exes and changing display settings also not necessary this way (at least here). Basically, install the game as outlined above, skip DX8 install, and download this instead. In the zip, grab dgvoodoocpl.exe, the conf file, and throw those in this game's dir right next to the main exe. Then go into the zip's MS folder, x86, then grab all those dll files except for DX9 one, and place those next to the others in main game dir.

Run the cpl file, and set how you like in the general and DirectX tabs. Can disable DGvoodoo watermark after confirming it all works. Apply settings, close it, and start Arcturus.exe and select the second option from top. DGVoodoo's virtual card should be selected by default, but do so if not.

Pick desired resolution, hit OK and enjoy. Am using 1920x1080 and nothing seems broken so far.

Note: at first glance, you'll notice my title screen is stretched is comparison to OP's example (the trees in background), but the actual title banner is seemingly not. So I'm wondering if the actual 3D assets also are not, but cba to confirm (but they look the same to me). As it stands, the game looks great either way, just pick the resolution you prefer.

Lastly, thanks for the up. *nods*

Proof of no DX8 install from dxdiag:

Can Controller work on this? i'm using Gamersir Cylone 2
You can visit the forum for more info.
As for using a controller with this game you can use AntiMicroX and create a controller profile for it. This game needs a button mapper to map keyboard keys to a controller since it doesn't natively support one. You'll have to find out what keys the game uses and map them to your controller accordingly. There are other button mapping apps like Joy2Key, Xpadder, and reWASD, but AntiMicroX is the best freeware one.

Just in case someone else has the same problem as me when trying to install this game on Windows 11.

I tried to install the game by mounting the ISO using PowerISO and running the Autorun.exe on Japanese locale. The autorun window showed up, I clicked the Install Arcturus button (the only option) and... nothing. The autorun just straight up closed.

I tried to run the Setup.exe directly from the /Disk1 folder, didn't work. Changing compatibility didn't work either. Nor did running it as admin. All showed the same error: Invalid Function.

What finally worked for me was extracting the entire disc contents into a folder, and then running the Autorun.exe file as administrator. The InstallShield Wizard finally shows up after clicking the Install Arcturus button and I can install it normally.

this is exactly why i have made it a point to never fuckin play anything localised EVER again
i can read and understand japanese well enough so i will never cry about wishing for an english translation for anything japanese ever again, even though the original game is korean
well, either way, with that shit ass "translation," i have eradicated my brain cells which were keeping this in my memory

rayman is european, french originally, you do know that

right?
Brooooo as I've explained in a previous comment that all y'all just skimmed over apparently. That line is not in this translation and that's the reason I removed it from the screenshot gallery. You can rest easy since the translation for this game is rather competent and doesn't have any dumb localization choices like that sentence. I went to that spot in the game and Maria never says that line. Either someone online was fooling around having fun injecting dumb text into the game or that was from the E3 English demo that never came to be (I don't think it's that one since that scene is over 2 hours in and the demo didn't cover that part but I could be wrong) Either way there's no need to nitpick over that sentence since if you play this download you won't see it

I already answered that a few comments later, my meaning was badly worded on my part.

Also as was posted later, that screenshot was not in the final version, but a demo version, probably meant as a proof of concept filler.

Good to know I have more Working Designs-coded kino in my future

It's so nice this game got translated. Sonnori is a very good developer who got forgotten. My favourite game from them is Astonishia Story, but Arcturus is also a great game.

Enjoy it!

Thank you so much! I ended up learning something new about my favorite franchise. May this corner of the internet survive as long as possible, as it is a museum like no other. May its content and community lasts as long and as immortal as XDAForums.
Amen

Thanks a lot for the game, downloaded an iso and the translation but was not able to apply the patch, this makes it more easier, also did you know that this is the game that inspired trails in the sky

This is just straight up using the Ragnarok Online engine. Which I guess makes sense since Gravity is involved.
Actually, Ragnarok Online uses the same underlying graphics engine and source code base of Arcturus. This game came out almost 2 years before RO and they recycled the assets from it. Arcturus was released in 2003 in Japan but in 2000 in South Korea. Ragnarok came out in 2002 in Korea and 2003 in the US. Sorry for fact checking you, I just didn't wanna leave you with the wrong assumptions about it

Did anyone else experience a crash when trying to board the boat shortly into the "easy" prologue? I have tried twice now and the game crashed both times a scene was about to trigger upon making contact with the boat.
