Arrr matey,

Do you know these collection discs like Midway Arcade Treasures or Namco Museum or any similar?
I wonder how many games there are actually arcade games or versions fully resemble arcade close as possible.
I mean, either, are all of those just compilations of home ports?

I would like to try various arcade games, but don’t want to deal with MAME yet, looking for quick solutions using emulators I already have.
Could you recommend some compilations worth looking into?

Absolutely yes.
The Switch and PS4 have phenomenal Arcade collections, individual arcade physical releases and such, in fact dare I say, I don't have enough because I'm sure I missed a bunch.

I often buy shmups as soon as they release physically, sadly some aren't avaliable anymore and some have gone up in price.
Some are scattered between platforms, for example Battle Garegga, Dangun Feveron and Ketsui are still PS4 exclusives, I own them but I wish they were avaliable on Switch too.

Get yourself nice arcade sticks for your consoles and buy arcade collections that appeal to you, most arcade collections and individual releases are great tho a few are not that good, but for casual play you'll be fine.

Taito has 4 milestone collections on the Switch. Namco Museum, various Irem collections as well.

They can be hit or miss depending on the Specific collection. If you're looking for collections, the Capcom Arcade Stadium collections are both very good. And if you don't mind individual releases, the Arcade Archives series from Hamster Corporation is top-notch.

If you're specifically looking for free emulators and simply don't want to deal with MAME, I would recommend picking up a MiSTer FPGA. Like you, I also hate MAME, and this was actually my reasoning for jumping into the MiSTer scene. There's a lot of games available, it's simple to set up, and everything runs great.

This the answer I was waiting for! Great! Thanks so much for sharing.

I mostly look into 2D games for multiplayer, i.e. more than two players. Any genre will be fine, but I guess it would be mostly brawlers or rail shooters. But anything else will fit too as long as it’s fun.
I’d prefer to try some classics like D&D, Cadillacs&Dinosaurs and TNMT. My thinking about compilation discs was based on the idea that they are easily downloadable ROMs, ARRR! 🏴‍☠️

D&D, Cadillacs&Dinosaurs and TNMT
The TMNT games are available on the TMNT Cowabunga collection, and Cadillacs and Dinosaurs is on the Capcom Belt Scroller collection. I'm not sure how good the emulation is on either collection but they are available. Unfortunately I'm unsure if the D&D games have been made available anywhere.
