Did anyone played this?

If so, anyone can tell if it really plays/feels like the Wipeout games, or the similarity is purely aesthetic?

Thinking on getting it as its supposed to run nice on the Steam Deck, and looks great for casual play.

I tried it once so this doesn't mean much but it does closely resemble WipeOut both on visuals and gameplay. I wouldn't be able to draw parallels to any specific entry.
You can acquire it DRM-free from GOG

I've been playing it recently. It's really fun, although the physics take a bit of getting used to.
It's a cool game though, and seems decently challenging so far. It's not the perfect new "oldschool" Wipeout game I want so badly (Designers Republic would need to be involved for that, if they even still exist lol), but it's still an excellent game. Especially for a relatively low budget title.

BallisticNG is exactly WipEout when it comes to controls, just the next evolution; it's what you'd expect a WipEout 4 to feel like after Wip3out if the series kept going in the PSX-style.

I followed the progress and played the early versions even before it even hit Steam Early Access, and even back then it was brilliant. It started in the WipoutZone forums.

The devs earlier project was Slipstream GX, which was a WipEout Pure/Pulse-style game, but they went full old-school for BallisticNG. Then, they incorporated the Pure/Pulse-style into BallisticNG as it's own separate mode.

But BallisticNG is classic WipEout through-and-through, just faster. I've been into is since 2016 at this point, and recently got a ROG Ally X... it plays like a dream as a handheld game! The video below of is of Porto Kora from Wip3out ported into the game via the WipEout Track Pack you can find online, and it speaks for itself. Even all the N64 tracks are in the Steam Workshop :)

Designers Republic still exists from what I can see, however the people who made the company into what it is, probably are not involved anymore.

I remember seeing it for the first time and was like "Is this a love letter to Wipeout?" and it probably is since it's a tribute, a really wonderful one

Since Sony won't make another Wipeout game BallisticNG is the fan response to their neglect.
It's well worth it, the game runs fine even on a low end GeForce 700 series card. Would be perfect on a OLED Steam Deck too. If you have the stomach for it, you can play the game in VR too.

Oh and that game title must be a nod to the last line in the introduction in the first Wipeout game manual.
