I just started this game and I was kind of caught off guard by how good it is, Im only about 5 hours in, but theres a lot of really cool mechanics involved. The whole interconnected city with dozens of characters going about a daily routine seems way ahead of its time, and I was already a fan of how the Suikoden series let you recruit such a wide variety of characters, its done just as well here. I also just find the characters and story really cute and charming.

at this point, im a bit suspicious of how little this game is talked about, to the people who've played it: does it like, totally fumble later on, or something and thats why its not as popular?

I think a lot of folks skipped on this game because, if you want to recruit as many characters as possible, you're going to have to follow a walkthrough by the absolute book. Now, there IS a mid-game twist that's not a fumble, and I understand why it happens due to the story, but it could've been handled better as the rest of the game progressed.

Just make sure that when you get to that part (don't worry, you'll know) you keep a separate save.

Also, I love Ridley Silverlake's costume design. IYKYK. The post game is worth playing, especially if, as in other TriAce games, you're a fan of their bonus dungeon recruitable cameos...

this is one of my favourite PS2 games learning where everyone is during the day and the reason they are their was alot of fun, and the story was good too. The only other rpgs i remember from that year is Xenosaga 2 (great game, art is uglier compared to first and combat isn't as good)m SMT:DDS (HELL YA), Dragon Quest 8 (one of the best), probley like 3-5 more but they are not on the top of my head.
also not sure how much this factored into it but FF7 advent children released in japan around the same time (i think we got a yo ho ho version too) so everyone might have been focused on that

Haven't played it yet, but it's on the JRPG Backlog.

It not fumbled, but rather rushed near the end, because of production problem, dozen of cut content that didn't make it into launch, and it feel shorter due to that, not to mention non human path is pretty unsatisfactory, overall still a very fun and good game, just being held back by it problem, hopefully we can get a new sequel next time

Also it very easy to miss Star Ocean 3 costume without a guide.

It was a great game, I played it years ago when it first came out. But I also had the strategy guide that made things MUCH easier as far as recruitment. I've tried to emulate it a few times in the years since but I can't get into it now. But I have really fond memories of playing this game as a kid.

At least the human path, something about the non human path lost me.

I definitely recommend though

I've heard of this game, first when I finished Radiant Historia Perfect Chronology and wanted to know more about the development of the game I found out that they took some members of the team from Radiata(IIRC, his concept designer and the character designer). Later I checked this game and there was good opinions, now this post showed up to me. I get the signs. Currently I'm planning to start Ys 7, but after that I'll go with this game.
