on one hand i feel like i've listened to enough non-soundtrack music (and not just songs, but also albums! one of them is from 1971 even!) to justify it, but i still get a little embarrassed about it when i listen to a lot of video game songs back to back, especially if it's fairly generic (like a nu metal boss theme), or band kid/normie shit (like metal gear rising music)

Nope

I can listen MH's Song of Beginning for hours on end

And I'm not ashamed to blast them out loud either; they're not obtrusive music

And frankly, I never heard a good song on the radio that came after 2013

i noticed this one time; that most of my music collection is either game music, or fan made music and songs based on games; with just a few music tracks being actual songs from actual bands.
i thought about it for a minute while i looked for a new track to play.
i settled on listening to morshu sing "it has to be this way".

I've long since given up on listening to radio music.
i mean the people who crap on vgm probably crap on typical radio music too.

idk i feel like all music blasted out loud is obstructive music depending on the context

I do enjoy listening VGM and I dont listen to radio music either, at least not the modern / mainstream ones (The music industry has changed for worse just like the film and gaming industry btw). But I also try to not listen to VGM so frequently and vary with other genres, cause it CAN feel boring to hear it all the time, just like any other thing. Like, recently I discovered I got a taste for Drum 'N Bass and Jazz Fusion, thanks to some games I've played. Sometimes, even relaxing music in general seems good to me to relieve the stress.

So...who actually cares if you listen to it or not? Just give yourself a break and try out some new stuff that you may like.

Sometimes, because my tastes can be embarrassing
Although they can be when it's not video game music too
I have a handful of songs I'd play with other people around, but if there's nerds I will let my more video-game songs play through

When I was younger (back in highschool) I used to be really self-conscious about what I listened to.... But I listened to it anyway. I was self concious about everything relating to, well, myself.

Music has been my one true love for as long as I can remember, so even tho I was self conscious about listening to KAMEN RIDER KABUTO OPENING THEME SONG or NIGHT OF NIGHTS 10 HOUR LONG VERSION + VARIOUS COVERS (think the ruler version), I still listened to them. Cause like, in the end, ain't nobody else was listening to those with me. I had my earbuds on, and when them shits r in, everyone else is OUT. U dig?

A little bit, but I've long since given up on getting into "real" music. It's only really an issue when someone asks what kind of music I like. I usually just say I'm not into music. It's still a little awkward, but they usually just give me a funny look and then move on. I used to try, but whenever I tell someone I greatly prefer instrumental music it seems like such an alien concept to them. I just don't bother anymore.

there's still a stigma connected to it, but I guess it depends who you're talking too. Most of my irl friend group isn't even into video games in general so they think it's weird. Younger people are probably more accepting of it.
I think it just depends on location, from where I'm from, it’s common to like nerdy shit like VGM or Vocaloid.

too many normies around here I guess 🤣 They act like they're allergic to anime or something. I keep most of my interest to myself because nobody seems too interested.

I have a big library of game music from different consoles up to NDS... all in their original format.
They are the only music i listen to... and doing so provokes my story writing creativity.
Every time i listen to one of them, i can't help but imagine a scene for it!

I guess I used to be self-conscious at some point, but nowadays I'm completely unapologetic about it.
