When I was in middle school I was in GT math classes and by the time I got to 7th grade I had in my possession at least 4 games on my TI-83 calculator. Stripped down versions of Super Mario, Bomberman, Galaga, and Doom. The Galaga was called Phoenix but I forgot what the others were called. The funny thing is the way things worked in middle school I think I played those games more often than I played my Game Boy Advance(later SP) and I played on it a lot. We would play the games in class but too many kids wouldn't be sneaky enough and eventually we couldn't do it in class anymore cuz teachers were looking out more. Nevertheless it was a fun time and the way we all played them was transfers thru a link cable. One kid had the games and it just spread like a virus lol.

Shit never knew a calculator could play a fucking game. Such technology was absent from me life lol. At most we would try to write words on a calculator lol.

But then it makes me question the impossibility of playing a game, or doing anything other than looking at the teacher or writing something as they force you to. I guess the education system in your country sucks hard so teachers really have no care what what kids do because from teacher's POV you can see what everyone does clearly. You can't hide shit lol. And if we had busted bringing a device into school for sure the principal would beat the shit out of us + clean the whole school for a month before and after classes. Shit doesn't worth it lol.

Yeah, this was the early 2000s in the US when we had this(I'm old). Those calculators were advanced as hell but also expensive. For our advanced math classes we were required to buy them so our parents had to spend the money and they were easily over $100USD.

The principal beating kids sounds like abuse to me. If I wanted to be beaten bloody for minor transgressions, I'd just look to my father. Now I'm getting abuse flashbacks...great.

Shit, in my country you are only allowed to use a calculator in university when you are a student of certain subjects and only in certain classes because for example we had statistics class and even with a calculator it would take like 2 pages and an hour to solve problems lolol. Otherwise calculator is for pussies and teachers would beat you until you can calculate in your head. There are actually ways to multiply even higher numbers in your head fast that I have never seen the rest of the world educated like that, except for Chinese or something I guess (we kinda stole tons of shit from Asians and adapted for our culture).

As for beating, it is actually a normal part of the education system here. I have no martial arts training but I can dodge attacks like a shaolin master thanks to decades experience on being attacked by teachers and such!!! You don't have to know how to fight if people cannot hit you!!!

ayy lmao

I had a TI-81 in high school. (It was the late 90s)
It didnt really have games but I remember some kid made a text-based game on it (like a really primitive Zork) and I remember thinking that was really cool.

Beatings just taught me how to endure pain and be better at hiding stuff. Years later in the Army that's how I learned to truly get violent myself with CQC training, combative grappling & boxing experience when I was pressured to join by family but I restrain myself cuz I don't like the feeling I get when I had to fight, it felt too good, too natural. And that's why video games help 😅

I vaguely remember a text based game but I can't remember what it was about for the life of me.
