Been following for a minute, though, and got my pre-order in and I'm particularly excited about this unit.

If you're not familiar, it's an FPGA console which can play any one of a number of FPGA cores but is designed specifically for the PS1 experience. My understanding of FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) is that it's like a programmable series of logic gates which can be programmed at a hardware level and get closer to mimicking a console at a hardware level with more accuracy than a CPU emulator.

This one will be set up to accept original PS1 controllers and memory cards as well as light guns, and there is a separate dock which will accept disks and be able to dump your games to a backup to play off of the console. It has a ton of outputs, both analog and digital. I'm super excited for it because I'm moving into a new place soon where I'll have space for a CRT. I'm looking forward to playing some games I can't really play on my PS1 (at least in English) like Baroque, SMT 1 and King's Field 1, on a CRT.

Also supposed to be compatible with light guns, which I never got to play around with with my PS1.

I pre-ordered my Founder's Edition in Classic Gray, but the transparent blue is really cool too (I just think the gray is more PS1 where the transparent blue is more Dreamcast)

I was watching an Amiga history bit on FPGA's, which gave dozens of generic 'cells' that you could pre-program with logic gates with commands because it was modular and easily swapable, allowing them to condense several chips into one when updating the Amiga's system. Quite fascinating, and likely underutilized in hardware design today.

I don't know anything about the technology, but this project seems interesting, especially that PS1 consoles are hard to find, at least here in my country. I mean, I have seen them for sale but they are becoming exceedingly rare.
This unit sounds like a decent investment, and it's good that it accepts all the features.

I plan too once my credit card cycles next month.

I might once I get the cash. My optical drive on my modded ps1 is starting to fail.

Interested, but I don't have the money to buy one.

To be honest. Imho FPGA nowadays "revolution" is a deadend. Since emulators for PSX (and evolution of emu-scene overall since '94 warajevo ) goes a loong road from 1999 to today there's no reason now to stick around with FPGA simulator of PSX (or stick around any FPGA simulator). I love the "cuteness" of this project, but for me its no-go now. I might want it if the project was released 10-15 years ago (when psx emulation wasnt perfect yet)

To be honest, I probably would be interested in this whether it was FPGA or CPU emulation. FPGA being slightly more accurate is neat, but I am most interested in compatibility with PS1 peripherals, easy access to dump games I have on Disc straight to the console, and HDMI/analog outputs all in a plug-and-play system.

But it is fine that it's not for everybody, of course. It just checks a lot of boxes off for me individually.

I got one, was too tempting of a deal and is exactly what I want. Listen, I absolutely love hooking real consoles up to a CRT and using them, but holy shit is it annoying sometimes dealing with old hardware. I've had so many little issues pop up and this should solve basically all of them. No more burning CDs either for Playstation games. Even better, eventually there will be a 3DO core eventually so I don't need to spend like $200 to buy a 3DO. Not to mention all the other consoles it can support.

i got my new ps5 pro instead
