You guys are kind of smack talking the game that was my introduction to the PS1 so forgive me if I'm having a hard time swallowing this proverbial pill.

Give it some credit.
It came out in 1995 for a console that wasn't even a year old and it was the very first 3D weapons based fighting game.
Look at Virtua Fighter, the first 3D fighting game EVER, and compare it to all the other games in that series that followed.

Yeah I played it when it was new. It was fun when it came out but whenever I revisit it I can't get into it anymore.
Maybe try the PC port. It's exactly the same but hey, you get the option to play as Earthworm Jim!

I’m not sure if it’s underrated since I’m not sure if it’s actually good, but I grew up with Toshinden 3. I was obsessed with the sick music and cool characters, but I hardly knew how to play at all.
Me, my brother, and our friend spent an entire summer unlocking every character.
The intro sequence blew my mind as a kid. I thought it was the coolest most dramatic shit I’d ever seen in my life. There’s just something so wild about storing a sword in a guitar case.

If you don't mind playing Japanese only titles then I'd recommend Brightis. Also fucking based for having one of my favourite anime characters as a pfp

I love the series, the soundtracks alone are cheese level extinction events, but I’d call them all rated very accurately.
It feels odd to call an entry into the Soul Calibur series underrated but Soul Edge/Soulblade deserves more love. Imho one of the top 10 fighting games on the system and to me far more enjoyable than the last couple of modern entries in the series. I just prefer the slower, more tactical combat it offers.
Kamen Rider Agito and Kamen rider V3 is pretty good, though if you're not familiar with KR you'll be puzzled who those dude are.

The graphics are much better and there’s more content but the stage design and the combat have been simplified too much for my tastes. Still worth playing but a step in the wrong direction.
Kamen Rider V3 is a strange but fun fighting game based on a Japanese TV series. It features multiple storylines with cutscenes that are surprisingly well-made for the PS1.
For non-Japanese players, the atmosphere might feel wild and hilarious, but this over-the-top craziness is what gives the game its charm. Visually, it holds up well: smooth animations, colorful arenas, and a storyline presentation reminiscent of modern fighting games.
