If you want to read 2000s culture sites, check the internet archive.

cringe neocities tumblr-tier blogs made by zoomers
I don't understand the zoomer fascination for y2k stuff. It's really annoying because they can't capture the vibe at all.
Not any good, active discord servers either.
This is true for any topic.

This is a revival, and they don't host anything anymore... But yeah, it's still online and being run by some of the same people.

I actually fulfilled sort of a nerdy, childhood dream by submitting Threads Of Fate to the site (I missed out entirely when it was still THE Abandonware place due to a language barrier).
Nice! Shame to hear they don't host stuff anymore but I get it.

Ha ha gottem.

But in all seriousness, I think you're looking at it. This site is the most 2000s thing I've found since... well... the 2000s.
Yeah lol. I was a really, really young kid back then but I still do remember what I lived of the 2000s (so basically 2008/2009) in a really great light, so I’m a fan of those times too lol. I also love early/mid 2000s internet, like, it was this completely different, gamers and weirdos only space normal people didn’t care about. That’s kinda something I’m not a fan of in modern internet. Like, literally everyone and their grandmother uses it lol.

Because of internet centralization I can't find any 2000s culture sites and communities besides cringe neocities tumblr-tier blogs made by zoomers and Agora Road's Macintosh Cafe that is a cancerous community obsessed with modern politics. Not any good, active discord servers either.

Any recommendations?
Not even gonna lie, I got nothing. Your best bet is fucking around on the wayback machine or going to the well known social medias (including the one we shall not name). It's sad really, popularisation led to the death of the old guard. No more Youtube stars, no dislikes, an algorithm that's fucked... You can't even comment on Youtube anymore without risking it being sent to the ether for no damn reason.

sorry, I'm waffling

This is the only one I know that's still active

Yeah, it used to be something special. I've been online since about 98 or so when I was 7 or 8, and growing up with the early internet was something magical (Though I'm sure my parents wouldn't have agreed if they knew the stuff I'd see online). I miss the irreverent spirit of the old internet, when people made stuff because they enjoyed it and wanted to share it and weren't worried about monetization. Now the internet feels so corporate and soulless in comparison.

I totally believe it, even 2009 internet was completely different from what it is now, I can’t imagine how it felt 10 years earlier. I started using internet when I was 4 lol, most people wouldn’t remember jack shit from that age but I always had a pretty good memory and I could read so I was light years ahead of my peers lol. My main usage was watching early youtube, man I miss how the website was early on. There is probably much more quality content now but finding it is so much harder because there’s a shit ton of content nowadays and the website is so hard to navigate without relying on an algorithm.
Aside from that though, the vibe itself is completely different. It feels way more corporate and full of normies, back then the website was mostly people filming random videos for fun, there wasn’t really a need for the website to get monetization involved so no money at stake either, so everything felt way more authentic. Anyway, as long as the internet continues to exist there will always be people wishing to have an authentic experiences here, such as this website.

Also, it was 2009 so obviously no educational videos lol, I grew up with LEGO Batman saying the worst slurs humankind has ever conceived. What a nice way to learn English ☺️

Having lived through that era of the internet, I don't know what to recommend. Slashdot still exists, but it's not exactly talking about the 00s anymore. Digg is undead, a shambling corpse with the heart and skin ripped off. Indymedia is dead, probably the biggest tragedy of social media killing indie sites.

There's some ephemeral stuff still around here and there, like Seanbaby (archived, and was never really about the 00s anyways), but a lot of it is pretty low-brow stuff that doesn't really give a good window into the culture of the time.

Your best bet is to browse the Internet Archive for old sites.

It's safe to say the old adage that "what's on the internet is on it forever" is false.

Trying to look for 90% of the royalty free artists who made music that ended up being put in the late 00s-early 10s Rosenkreuzstilette games couldn't prove that more. I tried looking for God Melospi's entire discography, ended up succeeding for the most part as it turned out she had an inactive YouTube channel, except for one album and funnily enough, said album had one of the songs used for Rosenkreuzstilette (Party of Ghost). As far as I know that album is completely lost media. The Wayback machine didn't record the download links, they're not on the YouTube channel and trying to look for them on the web even in Japanese has done nothing but lead me to dead ends.

It's also not the only case either. Rosenkreuzstilette Freudenstachel uses the original version of The Perishing Operetta by M-Art, who lost the OG site plus the file for the original song years ago. No one's found it.

Hell, the Vocaloid scene has lost media from only months ago. Sawtowne made a cover of "Mimukauwa Nice Try" and it's long gone, the original is only months old. The idea that "Everything on the Internet is forever" is a dead horse punchline at this point.

You weren't kidding, the only thing I found were 40 second snippets

Most of the internet is a toxic cesspool these days, I hardly interact with it anymore and it seems like it's never going back to how it was. It used to be more friendly (relatively) and people would actually have proper conversations but the id that is political discussion and the invasive nature of American-style conservatism and pervasive toxicity being embraced openly has ruined a lot of inner circles by breaking all nuance and removing anyone's ability to have a deeper discussion. You couldn't post a 3 sentence response to someone anymore without getting flamed with a quip copy-pasted from some other jobber. Only under very specific goals and circumstances can you still hold a normal conversation with someone. As long as people continue to treat their time on the internet as their ontologically evil moment it's only a matter of time until all forms of communication online are ruined by it.

My man, when you start throwing out phrases like "American style conservatism" you are also part of the problem of bringing in politics. Lmao

Just to stir the pot a little more. I voted for Trump lmao

Well, for whatever reason this one went political again...more importantly though, the answers have been a pretty uniform "Nah, not really." Let's call this one settled.
