for those who do still play, yes i do play 5-civ DraMa
Complimentary tomatoes to throw at me will be provided by staff
i personally find the modern iteration of Duel Masters to be far more fun than the state it was in the ps2 game, which shouldnt be surprising we are basically comparing a game state in its first year to its game state after 20 years.I loved the PS2 game to death and still do, always was interested in the actual card game though, but I don't think the card game in its modern state would live up to how fun i found it with the cards available in that game.
so since you brought up art, the card on the left is "Dogiragon, royal revolution" and its artist Nakamura 8 is also very prolific in MTG and has even snuck in references to the Dogiragon line of cards in some of his Magic artSometimes you come across a different hobby and go "wow this terminology is crazy" and then you go back to doing your hobby with equally if not crazier terminology with absolutely zero self awareness.
Anyhow.
I mainly play Magic the Gathering and a deck that is like 10 years old at that but the card art looks really good here, I'll go check out the gba games.
The second bullet point is my issue with modern card games in general, every effect is so over the top and likely a paragraph in text that I feel it's asking too much of me. I prefer a good middle-ground to this where the text is subtle, short and sweet and every single card pack is not trying to over-powercreep the other all the time.2. what i love about modern duel masters is the game design philosophy is basically "when every card is game breaking, none of them are"
idk how big the prices differ between canada and america but ebay usually has recent sets wether that be decks or booster boxes for relatively fair pricesI really do want to play it but can't find much in the ways of buying it where I am. I do have the PS2 game and the GBA games but that's all I got DM wise.
the anime itself could have its own iceberg video, but basically the shobu era of the anime isnt much better in Japan either.I remember playing the gba games a lot
Also remember how the localized anime made almost impossible to understand how the game actually plays with all the gag dub they put in. One of the main reasons it didnt got that big back then
Even Yu-gi-oh got more serious after the Pegasus arc and rules where very clear. Just need to heard what Pot of Greed does everytime is played (looking at GX)
the reason we dont have anything duel masters outside of japan is because wotc are incompetent hacks who have never been able to market or manage a product that doesnt have massive name recognition (ie: mtg the first tcg or dnd THE ttrpg)How do I go about playing Duel Masters? Is it any different than Kaijudo?
I looked up the games and can't believe we never got at least a digital switch port of the current games. seems like waste of opportunity.
Hopefully I can irk my friend to play with me if i keep pestering about itthe reason we dont have anything duel masters outside of japan is because wotc are incompetent hacks who have never been able to market or manage a product that doesnt have massive name recognition (ie: mtg the first tcg or dnd THE ttrpg)
as for getting into it, i heavily suggest looking at the english duel masters wiki and checking out their discord alot of people play using untap.in which allows a sort of english overlay over the card images.
that said the easiest way to get into the game is to just collect cards and go from there.
After 20 years theres no shortage of products to look into and many can be found for fairly cheap, some booster boxes going for as low as $50 on ebay

oh you have no idea, despite being only available in japan (excluding inporting obviously) its one of the the top 5 card games globallyI watched the anime a bit as a kid, but I could never really get into it in all honesty. Maybe because I was such a big Yu-Gi-Oh at the time that may have clouded my judgement a bit, who knows. Funnily enough though; when I visited Japan in April, I found out it's still massive over there, to the point it (based on what I saw anyway) actually seems to be bigger and more popular than Yu-Gi-Oh.
there actually isnt alot actuallyHopefully I can irk my friend to play with me if i keep pestering about it
I'm going to dabble on the video games, to familiarize them before I make the physical jump! Any games you like I can try?![]()
It was wotc, the company is infamously incompetentWell yeah, the Shogu era anime failed hard to make sense of how the card game actually played with lots of talk about something else then Shogu or the character pulls an awesome 3D giant creature ending the battle and leaving us with a question mark
Yugioh didnt had this problem after the first part where they actually explain how the rules worked, reason for why in the west only the videogames where the close thing to know what you are doing and Yugioh took all the glory thanks to the anime (to make it worse, there was mtg, another huge stone in the middle of Duel Masters to get any piece of the cake)
I dont know what where they thinking when they made the anime since it does nothing to promote the actual card game and only show "cool monsters" with random talking
Yea, duel masters originally was a manga to promote MTG but because the game is infamously unpopular in japan they modified the game to make it more streamlined and it basically became its own thing.I only remember the name. Never played the card game or watched the show.
I saw elsewhere that the game was made by WotC as an attempt to introduce Magic: The Gathering to Japan. Not sure how true that is.
