Any baseball fans around?

Baseball is literally my favorite sport, and I almost can't believe how much I enjoy it.

I have played baseball games on every console and I also play it IRL (pitcher and shortstop).

I used to be a HUGE Montreal Expos fan before MLB put an end to that... now I follow both the Blue Jays and Red Sox, but with nowhere near the passion.

What about you? Do you play the sport? Do you play baseball videogames? Who do you root for?
Been a Phillies phan since 1989. Before that I was a Mets fan, but when Lenny left for Philly and Strawberry started his downfall, I began watching the Phils. Where I lived you could watch both the Mets and the Phils since we were right in between NY/Philly. After Kruk joined the Phils I really got into them and have been a diehard ever since.

I played outfield when I was a teen. Was a pretty good hitter, but was too big and built like a football player, so I couldn't run to save my life. Had back issues and knee problems too, so never played it beyond my highschool days. Loved it though.

Nice to see fellow geeks who are into sports though. I never like hearing people refer to it as "Sportsball" and tossing it aside. Sports are games themselves; the oldest games in fact.

This one always gets me:

Montreal probably would've won the world series in 94 if there had been one. Amazing team. IT'd be great if they made an expansion team for the city.

I've been a baseball fan every since I was knee high to a grasshopper. Also I know I am probobly going to catch heck for this, but I am a huge Chicago Cubbies fan. I have the best memories of watching games with my Dad on his days off. We'd scrape together a lil bit of cash and go get some hot dogs, and some soda for me, and a six pack for him and that would be our afternoon. I'm still sad to this day that my Pops didn't get to live long enough to see the Cubs win the big one. Also we never did make it to a day game at Wrigley like we always wanted to. But we still had a lot of good times and I still do today with my spouse now and again.

I also have a lot of interest in Japanese baseball. Been looking into that a lot more recently. They really go wild for baseball, and it's really awesome to see.

Montreal is currently the largest market still available. MLB is burning money by not trying to make a comeback there.

Loved your story, too! Those Phils teams were a force to be reckoned with.
I still watch that phillies 1993 yearbook. Such a wonderful year. That was the last summer before I graduated highschool and me and my grandfather had season tickets. The crowds were electric and the team was so approachable. They were just regular guys that loved putting on a show and were all very fan friendly. The strike ruined things though. In a lot of ways.

Definitely.

To think this team used to be able to get players like Jack Morris, Rickey Henderson, Dave Steward, David Cone and Paul Molitor just because.

I hate to say it but baseball's economic situation is broken right now. I've slowly tuned out MLB as the years go by and have gravitated to American Football. It feels like its only the same big market teams that can realistically compete. The rest have to get really lucky with prospects only to have to rebuild after said prospects get signed by the New Yorks, Bostons or LA teams.

Oh, undeniably.

My last memories of the Montreal Expos were of seeing "Expos University": the team barely hanging on to every good player they developed or signed before they were snatched by a bigger, stronger competitor.

When I was a kid I played baseball for a few years for the Red Devils, one of the two teams in my town. At first I was a right fielder, then they moved me to shortstop. Unfortunately because of an injury and other family problems I had to stop, but the sport has always remained in my heart mainly as an affective matter It is a very addictive game when you play it, as it requires considerable physical skills and reflexes, but here in Italy it has never been very popular. A few years later I turned my attention to tennis, but technically I was always rather poor and played it at a purely amateur level. I currently enjoy running during my free time, but I also love hiking in the mountains!

sadly i live in Chile. We don't really have anything about Baseball aside from some cheap toy for children. But i will say, ever since Gawr Gura sang on the Dodgers Stadium i gained a increasing interest in knowing about the sport :3

I encourage you to dig deeper.

I thought the game was dead here and then I found out that we have a league (established in 2017), an Olympic team (thrice champions), a league made entirely out of international players, and even baseball facilities on some of the largest clubs, one of which plays near me. Who knows? Maybe it's being played right next to you!

For the last past year I've had a growing interest in Baseball. The tough thing is, as a European, I can hardly catch any games airing. I try to watch the free game of the day on the mlb website on saturdays from time to time, since it airs at a reasonable time for me haha.

Tbh I've been trying to find the way to get more into it but since I never really cared for many sports, I don't exactly know how? But it's been so good to read this thread, I love all the enthusiasm and stories you all have :) Let's see if I can catch some more games live this year!

I've always been a big fan of baseball, but I'd fallen out of following it over the past few years (work, education, relationships taking most of my time), but I've gotten back to it. Go White Sox!!! (We'll win one of these days...)

Duuuude... The fact that the Jays might actually land a superstar pitcher makes me wanna go on the rooftop and yell:

"ATTENTION! ATTENTION! ALL HANDS ON DECK! WE MIGHT GET GAME!" XD

The Blue Jays?? That's cool! That's one of the teams I want to try following, good to know! xD

Yep! They have been pretty disappointing this off-season, but if they actually land this guy... who knows? It might just be what the staff needs.

Fun fact: My Blue Jays Canada Day jersey was the first and only international purchase I have ever made. I was THAT nuts about the 2017 season.

Let's hope they do, then!!

Nice, now that's enthusiasm! Must've been a great season, or a very fun one at least! Any game you thing it's worth watching from them?

I'm not sure if it's on YouTube anymore (it used to), but watch Game 4 of the 1993 World Series if you can. It's not only a huge slugfest, but it also featured a lot of Hall Of Famers, including the late Rickey Henderson.

Played little league and some high school ball, then my vision became an issue and by the time I had it addressed, I had moved on to other things. But I still like watching a ball game when I can. My dad has the mlb thing on his playstation, so when I'm at his house I can see games. I like baseball video games too, but not if they're overly complicated. Give me some simple gameplay that leans more towards arcade and less of a sim, and I'm happy.

If you aren't annoyed by mobile games... Baseball 9 on Android is a blast to play.
