I used my brothers 360 a fair bit but never got a chance own one myself. Gonna check the flea market and some pawn shops this weekend. What are some things I should keep an eye out for and what would you consider a fair price? I was thinking 50 dollars maybe 60 if it comes with a controller and all the cabels not sure if that's too low or too high

go for either the xbox 360 S or xbox 360 E models, the S is the most stilish while the E model is the newest and probably the cheapest, either of these will work since the older ones are way more susceptible to the infamous red ring of death which is something you definetly don't want.

Get a can of air and stick the nozzle into the power brick and blow out all the dust in it. And buy some AA batteries or get a charging cord for the controller.

Game wise, forget the haters!!! Get Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts, and Toejam and Earl III: Mission to Earth.

Get a cheap 1TB HDD (Yes i do mean HDD, a SSD wont help with a 360) a USB adapter for it, a flash drive, and softmod (tethered) it....

Play all the games

Also.. do that thing @Guinea said..
Or crack it open and give it a GOOD cleaning (Not the power brick, don't fuck with that thing)

Avoid the launch model unlesss you enjoy doing your own maintenance, even beyond the red ring of death earyl gen units sufferred a myriad of technical and hardware difficulties, the red ring itself can mean like 5 different types of failure occuring. Play Fable 2 for a great time.
Honestly get a kinect if you can, some of the games were underated and even if you don't enjoy them its a good webcam

50 dollars is probably a lowball now that its out of production and retro for current gamers with plenty of hardware exclusive games that never got ported off, I'd expect like 120 minimum even for a poor condition early 360

*EDIT
As for a fair price....
If you're going the eBay route, plan to spend about $150 USD on a good working console with a controller, power brick, and cords... If you can find a full system for under $70, grab it as if it's the last bottle of water in the desert.

The 360 is considered a retro console by selling standards, so its price is going up.

Be on the lookout for 360 controllers with a transforming d-pad (transforming in the sense that you switch the d-pad into the normal 360 d-pad and a more refined version). The d-pad is silver and grey.

Does this work on every model?

As far as i know, as long as its on Dashboard version 17559 yes.
Again, this is Tethered, so you will have to Rebreak it each time you power on the system...

But Grimdoomer is working on a permanent solution to it.

Avoid the Falcon model.

At this point with the Xbox 360 store closed, you should look into hacking it.

PIERECE THE HEAVENS WITH YOUR DRILL!!!

Unless it came precracked, in that case skip the risk

Educate me on Bad Update, because I don't got no copy of Tony Hawk's American Wasteland, and it's non-persistent with a 30% success rate. It feels exclusive and inconvenient, and yet is being touted as this super miracle hack you can do with a USB.

Actually, you can use the Rock Band blitz demo to do it now, and it has a success rate of about 85-90%. No, I never had any luck with Abadavatar, so I have no idea about that. But this method is more if you don't want to or can't solder.
So, yes, it is kind of a miracle, since the hypervisor was such a bitch to bypass.

MrMario links directly to the Rock Band Blitz demo, which you can legally download to do this, along with the dashboard update, etc.

It says it's only Trial on un-hacked 360s, will that still count?

Links in the video, again Legally can download the Demo

Get slim or elite
Get one already with JTAG/RGH
Get good AAA rechargeable batteries
Most big 360 games are like 6-8gb i have 250gb hdd and it's more than enough for me

Grab an Xbox 360 Elite, a couple of those dope AF controllers, no more than £80 all in, then get yourself a copy of Crackdown 1 for like £2, Fable: The Lost Chapters for £5, Gears of War 2 for around the same, Conker: Live and Reloaded/Blue Dragon/Lost Odyssey/Project Gotham Racing 3.

Metal Gear Solid & Devil May Cry HD collections as well ofc.

Chuck some music on to an USB stick, plug that shit in, create a playlist on the music player and have it running whilst you play your games. Glorious. :')

I've often thought about buying one of those devices myself. But no, I had my time with the 360 and it was a good time. Get the Elite version you can't go wrong with that.

Oh, I forgot to mention, if the games you want to play are supported the og xbox one is a decent alternative as well, it can play the most popular xbox 360 games some of them run at higher framerates and performance, plus you also get access to newer games, bluray video playback and other features, I bought a cheap used xbox one s last year and I've been playing lost odyssey with it for the first time, it works well
