So I'm a big anime (and video game; shout-out Persona) opening and ending fan. I think they are a really cool artistic expression of the media they represent, and many songs from them are among my favorite music. However, there are some of them that just hit different. And I don't mean just like: "oh, that's really good!". I mean more or a surreal, nostalgic, mysterious, almost ethereal sort of vibe that make them stand out among all others for me. These examples are rare as for my own experience, but let me share some I can think of so you see what I mean (hopefully):

Monster is a great anime. It is just the perfect thing to watch comfy at night. And the opening doesn't even need any lyrics for it to resonate deeply with me.

Lain's just special in every sense. And this opening just goes so hard.

Chobits' second ending is such a mood too. For some reason it just makes me wanna cry.

I'm not very good verbalizing how these things make me feel, but I hope I was able to kinda convey the feeling.

I'm curious about y'all. Do you have openings and endings, or just scenes even that make you feel something similar? I kept the title kinda ambiguous. Your feeling of "special"
doesn't need to be the same as mine :)

Hmm only this one made me feel like that:

Despite the lyrics are simple "love song", the mood is something else, something way more and deep. It make me feel like a long lost almost dream-like past that you would be so desperate to return to because it was a legendary time of your life but it's impossible for you to return to that dream-like past anymore which make you feel resentful. All you have is just being sad it became a distant pass but also happy too for you experienced it. In that regard it's not a nostalgic song to me at all, I don't even relate to this feeling which is why it's so "alien to me" like this mood came from "another reality" as if I stepped into someone else's reality and experienced their feeling that I could never understand without hearing this melody and the way it was sung. It's that "special" to me.

Hello everyone, how are you? I'm new to this anime community, but I've loved anime since I was a kid. I watched Knights of the Zodiac when I was a kid, but I don't know what to choose.

There's the slice of life rule. You never skip the intro, but I'm not just going to spam Lucky Star/New Game/Yuru Camp.

Something special? I got you:

i like the openings to Knights of The Zodiac. A lot of the openings from different countries are great!

If anyone wants to recommend me some anime from the 2000s for my aesthetic, I watched the year 2000 and I'm accepting.

I love how contemplative it feels, especially juxtaposed to the series, which is a masterclass in blending lowbrow comedy with heartfelt moments.
Makes Onizuka feel more complex than he often comes off as.

The best thing to come out of the whole series. They knew Mikasa was the coolest character back then. Her transforming from a girl into a woman hit really hard.

I love how still it is, mainly showing off the characters being in their element alone, then grouping together, while being REALLY good with the foreshadowing and symbolism, to end with the main gang enjoying just enjoying dinner.

I don't follow One Piece but my brother is a megafan and this one came on recently when I watched an episode at his place. It hit REALLY fucking hard.
I've always liked the whole role-model theme One Piece does so insanely well, and repeats often (and has had as a core theme since the first chapter) and this one really stood out to me when we watched it.
DIRTY PAIR MENTIONED HELL YEAH

Forgot about this one. The imagery is excellent and has a really cool hatching style. Song sounds like a japanese Sting knockoff:

Criteria's a bit vague on this one, but here's some of my choices for openings/endings I find unusual and memorable:

The Doremi Motto opening is pretty special to me because not only is it a bop it displays a love for the franchises continuity prominently displaying the large side cast in who have been here since the first season besides just showing the the main characters.
The Princess Tutu opening tugs at my heart strings every time it's nostalgic beautiful and sombre it feels like a hopeful lament to the happenings of the show

The first time I saw Slayers Perfect. It's been my favourite anime of all times until I saw Madoka, but that specific movie will always have a special place in my heart. I love the ending and the song Midnight Blue from Hayashibara Megumi, my favourite seiyuu.
And the song with better quality. I didn't find it together with the video. I bought the movie in DVD, I don't understand why nobody put the DVD quality ending on internet :(

I still love children anime these days and i sure that because their openings — i like how upbeat they are and how their always showcase all major characters in opening sequence

Both Ef series have an amazing art direction heavily inspired by German Surrealism, although the openings have a more lighter style.

Then there is Elfen Lied's opening, which is impossible to forget, and can be considered a great modern Kyrie.

The first ending of Shadows House captures perfectly the whole vibe of the first half of the series, its so good at how much it says with so little, pure elegance.
