Anime Anime opening and ending themes that don't fit with the show's tone?

yoooooooo this reawakened weird ass memories
i remember druaga airing on animax back then and it was clearly some kinda of fantasy anime, but the OP showed people playing.......baseball??? that always confused me to shit

and yeah gakkougurashi's OP is even worse than madoka's OP đź’€
i'm a big Kirara fan, so i honestly knew what to expect from a Houbunsha title
.....except it was EVERYTHING NOT WHAT I WAS EXPECTING ::homerscream
I have nostalgic memories of Druaga. It was at a time where i was free and didnt have to worry about bills or work. Hearing and seeing the ending song again almost brought me into tears.

I don't know, I've seen a lot of animes but I never looked at whether it's good or not. Of course not everything is good but I always watched it until the end or am I probably someone who doesn't pay attention to such things .

My contribution to this topic: Choujin Locke Lord Leon OVA
Shows him fighting characters that I suspect only appear in the Manga

Los Guardianes del Universo its the original hispanic opening for Saint Seiya and its a cover of the French opening. Now the intro is an instant classic in LATAM, but its also a major spoiler showfest, Seiya and the others wear the V2 Cloths from the show after they survived the attack on The Sanctuary so there's a spoiler but not only that the scenes they show include Atlas from The Legend of Crimson Youth OVA and who never even appears on the regular show. Plus on top of all of this whenever I saw the new designs Seiya looked skinnier and thus I thought I had missed a prequel season or something.

I will get the ball rolling with Berserk 1997, Tell me why.
"So put your glasses on
Nothing will be wrong
There's no blame, there's no fame
It's up to you,"

Is the singer trying to say that becouse guts had no glasses, that everything was wrong as a result?::thinking

Becouse my god, just wow, things went sooooo so wrong!

Eh, not the most unfitting, imo. I think the song is fine. My problem with that one is more of how lazy it is... Really? You resize a few images in sync? I guess they blew through the op budget on the cape animation :loldog

And when the line about memories is sung, the OP shows footage of him slaying some dudes
Fucking right! I love the song, but if you know the lyrics, it is such a bizarre juxtaposition over that fighting sequence O_o I mean, couldn't they have opened with that fighting sequence or used it elsewhere, and had something else over that vocal part?

The best example I can think of rn:
Holy crap that was infinitely more corny than the thumbnail led med to believe.

For me, it's Air Gear
I guess the weird Japanese Linkin Park song sort of fits the street-y inline skate feel somewhat (I kinda dig it actually), but the opening itself doesn't fit Air Gear at all, or at least not the way I remember the manga, which I remember as being super grungy and edgy, with lots of perverted scenes and violent gang conflicts, but I was like 12 when I stole a magazine from a friend because it had some really horny bath chapter in it that was borderline porn, so my memory of it might be warped.
The intro makes it at least LOOK like a happy, bright low-budget shonen rollerblade show.

Alright, might just commit heresy and get killed by Rageburner for this, but this one really here's the mother of all unfitting theme songs:

Now before you use me as Eclipse fodder, that doesn't make it any less good, though! The intro is just Guts' Tinder profile and the song is great on its own right, I'm a huge Pen Pals fan. Just that it doesn't really fit the tone of the rest of it, particularly not since the rest of the show has Hiarasawa's god-tier soundtrack.

Really? I think it fits pretty well, at least the early parts of HxH.
Maybe it's because the arabic intro has replaced that one in my head, it's SO good.

I know I this is an ending theme (and thus I changed the thread title) but still

Ive always found the first OP of Zeta Gundam pretty funny considering what goes on in that series. Particularly the line " I WANNA HAVEEEE A PURE TIIIIIIIIMMMMMEEEEEE EVERYONES A NOBLE MIIIIIINNNNNDDDDD" for a series about war and both sides essentially using child soldiers to lead the frontier
The best example I can think of rn:
Unironically one of my favorite OPs ever.

So, I'm pretty sure this thread has been made already, but I'm just gonna put what I'd put on the other one

Narutaru

Takopii no Genzai

I'm guessing the intent was to show that the story depicts the Golden Age arc (with episode 1 being an epilogue set during the opening Guardian Angels of Desire arc) by using an upbeat tune before things take a turn for the worst as the story comes to an end.

Still doesn't make it any less odd. The second adaptation, the Golden Age Arc Trilogy (and its extended TV Memorial Edition recut) has much more fitting theme songs, particularly with Part III: The Eclipse's "Breakthrough".
