In this early-access roguelike with crafting elements, you play as a quirky upstart in an open world, where you'll be tasked to survive with--

Indie dev be like:
"Hmmmm you're kinda tired of playing a roguelike? what about another roguelike but with ultra specific gimmick"

And somehow i always ended buying those game, bruh my epic and steam library are mostly roguelikes now

In Card-On, you play a plucky teenager trying to survive a cyberpunk fantasy tavern in this rogue-like deck building tower defense boomer shooter RPG.

"Insert here any gambling game with some thrown in mechanics to slightly alter RNG in your favour, despite it just being luck if you win or not regardless."

Kinda hope people made more MMBN inspired indie game '>'
MMBN is hard, and the reason everyone copies Earthbound is because the POV turnbased battles are the default setting in RPGmaker (and also means you can skimp on graphics and not animate the player characters). Plus, you can also play coy and not take you story seriously, because you're a big quirky chungus like Shigesato Itoi. That way, if your story sucks or it derivative, you can brush it off as if you aren't even trying.

Also, I have a sneaking suspicion there ARE MMBN inspired games, I just don't think they're as publicized....
The 100th Streets of Rage inspired indie game.
I think this might have something to do with OpendBOR. I know this might seem like sacrilege to you, but I'm uncertain as to why Bare Knuckle became the "definitive" beat 'em up for everyone to copy, It's like, everyone who makes games has only ever played 1 game in their life.

At the very least, it's always Streets of Rage 2, so while it's not going to be as crazy as Battle Circuitl, it's at least going to be SOMETHING. Imagine if every Beat 'em up was just the Konami Simpsons game.

Also, I accidentally typed in BEAST 'em up, so now I have a title for Mutant Fighters knock off if I ever wanted one.

Literally, every RPG ever made. Oh, what's that? You debuffed your opponents accuracy? Huh, sounds like your trying to slightly alter the RNG in your favours, depsite it just being random. ::smug
One word: soulslike
*VOMITS UNCONTROLLABLY*
Blech, how the fuck can you make an genre out a series of action RPGs that are only expressely unique in their difficulty? Sure, they have nice environments, and some diegetic storytelling, but nothing about that is so expressely unique to games created by FromSoftware that it get's to be it's own category.

Not really. I've used OpenBOR, but I was never an addict with it. A good amount of the early OpenBOR games from the early 2000s have not aged well.

On the other hand, it's because they know true greatness! ::flexing ::winnie

Well, you're getting way more Konami TMNT and X-Men like arcade brawlers to make up for it.

Quite a few, but still rare.

I dunno, man. Cosmic Invasion and Shredder's Revenge are WAY better than the old stuff. I'm not to sure about that Rita's Rewind though, I'm getting real sick of trying to turn the Megazord fights into fucking Mario Party. Low rent fighting game boss fights or bust.
A game with ps1 graphics
And before that it was NES "8-bit" and Super Nintendo/Genesis "16-bit", all while breaking immersion with modern aspect ratios and effects because, fuck it why not? The aesthetic only matters when it's easy.

Obviously, but influence and inspirations are still

Pretty mediocre overall.

I never said they were numerous, just that they existed, didn't want to get your hopes up...
Nah i just stated that to show how rare these type of games are.

And also if somone else found another game with this vibe they can quote me lol::booshy

Uh, yes and no? Sure, there's skill and magic that boil down to just luck, but in an RPG you can also, y'know, plan out strategies, work with the skills that aren't RNG, stuff like that.

In the majority of them "gambling" games I'm implying, like balatro and such, its just luck if the die rolls in your favour, or it gives you the right card, or what. Can't plant out much of anything, and there's really no skill involved. If you're lucky, you win, that's it.

A lot of them roguelikes are the same. Skill can carry you so far, sure, but if the RNG decides to dick you over and just give you worthless items/upgrades, unless you're really frigging good at the game, you ain't winning there, period.

Ever played One Step from Eden? It's a great MMBN inspired game while putting it's own twist on it. I got all the achievments in that game and thoroughly, really loved my time in that one.

Then there's its sequel: Duellists of Eden which is all about PVP goodness if you're into that stuff.

This post made me lose faith in humanity when I was on Twitter back in the day.

"inspired by" when it's literally the same game with recolours! Yahoo!

2d pixelated Metroidvania that just happens to be a roguelite.
