Nope. Your analogy is not correct at all.Dude, you sound like a massive purist who thought that movies should've stayed silent and in black & white or that music should only be done with physical instruments.
Also by telling us: "cutscenes and story is one thing killed arcade gaming, because it distorted the sense of what games should be." you're implying that videogames should only be about arcade experience without ever allowing the medium to evolve or try new things?
It was already getting some staleness with how things were more pretty yet were fundamentally the same thing. This is also what console gaming is currently having which is why we should see a next step. VR could bring a new way of enjoying game but are still not as accessible to people.
You sound like that gaming shouldn't have become mainstream.
If I had said "damn I dislike 3D games" or something then your "movies should be black and white" would make sense. If I had said "damn I prefer my JRPG NPCs have no voice just like SEGA Genesis ones" then your movie being silent would make sense.
The topic is about arcade here, not how video games should be. You already quoted my message I explain why I like today's games. Did I seem like disliking Persona 4 for not having arcade gameplay? Perhaps my idea of "being able to enjoy games despite they are no arcade game anymore" didn't seem too obvious to you despite I mentioned this idea intentionally.
But cannot deny the way how games getting "silent black and white movies" in your analogy. Back then in arcades games had "voices and sound" and "all visible color" but in Death Stranding the game has no sound or even visual, if you can make sense your analogy.
Why? Arcade fun actually made games have sound and visuals, now games are a program lacking those (by your analogy).
So unlike you and unlike you think I want, I would want AIs integrated into augmanted reality technology to turn real life into a video game playground similar to Watch Dogs 1 minigame and not limited by Pokemon Go stuff. I mean imagine playing a game like Cyberpunk 2077 but by using a special headset your real life city turns into Cyberpunk city. But you don't really have to go specific way in real world to find NPCs or something to start mission like Pokemon Go. You choose where that "story section" should be. That's where AI comes in. It analyze your real world like let's say you chose a story segment just have to take place in a room, so you choose your own house as the designed story place in the game so characters in the game adjusted to your home by IDK sitting on your couch or something. Imagine "FBI open up" situation but take place in your home lol. This is the evolution of video game I dream. Then the gameplay can be not limited. If you have to eliminate an enemy you can do so in any way. Kick the balls, use a bag to choke, throw chair, et cetera. This will make games beyond arcade fun for my taste. Thus sandbox fun will be limited by your imagination and of course limitation of real life too lol.
So my buddy, I'm not limited by mere Virtual Boy VR tech lol, I think bigger. But no video game company can handle my ideas because they are too lazy and stingy. I hope they will go beyond of simple flat screen 3D visual novels with chore gameplays.
Look at my profile picture and comprehend it's a cyberpunk character. Do you think I have a thing for past and ancient rubbish? I dream of a future you have no idea it can exist lol.
