Game Description:

American McGee's Alice is an Action-Adventure/Horror/Platformer 3D video game published by Electronic Arts and developed by Rogue Entertainment released on 2000 for Microsoft Windows.

This is the remastered version of the game released by EA on June 14th, 2011 for PC. While technically the original game is abandonware, a version of it is included as a free DLC in the sequel game Madness Returns. (that's not gonna stop me from posting this lol)

This includes the optional VorpalFix QOL modification (instructions on installation linked below)
https://github.com/Wemino/VorpalFix

The original instruction manual is included in the download. It includes some interesting lore, subtle gameplay tips and the KB/M control layout mapping. Giving it a read is recommended for the best experience. (sad they don't include manuals with games anymore...)

To launch the game run the alice.bat file found in the Alice1/bin folder.
Testing and working fine on Windows 10/11.

This release was compiled and files provided by non-xerox-possibility (thanks bro)

This game has mostly be inaccessible for a while, nice to see it around. though if it hasn't had some updated controls it will (like a lot of older games) be a little wonky to get into.

As much as I love Madness Returns, it doesn't quite capture the essence of the original game, which is more dark, nightmarish and unexplained.

I beat madness returns, and there were certainly some VERY uncomfortable parts as i remember, a hard veer left from the Disney movie. How much compared to the first game, i couldn't say.

haha, I honestly set up my own version of this the other day.
Good to know there's this one here too though, fantastic game.

Speaking of games around this era, I'd love to see a package of Heavy Metal F.A.K.K. 2 there's even a fan made HD texture pack on Nexus and ModDB

There was a PS3 port done by EA that was packed with Alice Madness Returns, the sequel that they got American McGee to come back and do.
He however had a terrible time with EA and decided to retire from Game Dev a bit after that.
I saw an announcement he's back in Japan developing something 🤔 Stuffies like stuffed animals or something.

  • I dislike when a game developer puts their own name in their game title.
  • Especially when they're appropriating an existing literary figure at the same time (Alice).
  • And all-the-more-especially when they have an annoying name.
It was like the marketers and creator were lying to your face that this person is important.

I wouldn't mind if Jeff Minter released a game called "Jeff Minter's Cudchewing Festival". I have 0 problem with Shigesato Itoi's #1 Bass Fishing.
If it was titled "Lewis Caroll's Alice", then people would expect whimsical fantasy stuff, not dark n edgy stuff like in the game...

Isn't this on PS3? I swear I remember playing this on PS3 back in 2012.

The font hurts my eyes. I hate stylized fonts.

For those who don't have it, the sequel, Alice: Madness Returns is 75% off on Steam. Also, unlike Augmented Steam is telling you, EA removed Origin from this game 4 years ago, so no extra DRM.

Great game, love it, thank you.

Lovely stuff, underated in its time, there's a lot to enjoy here.

Thanks! Great Game! Is this the same version that's included in Madness Returns?
Sort of, this is the version that was included in certain special edition versions of Madness Returns, (before EA decided to delist the AMA dlc for some reason) but it's the original game patched to support HD resolutions. The optional VorpalFix mod included with the 7z file restores the QOL features that the 360/PS3 versions of AMA contained. AMA's PC version is currently abandonware (the console version is technically freeware as it's a free DLC to AMR) and isn't available on Steam/GOG, so I got in touch with CSmith to donate my copy of AMA and for him to upload it here.

Unable to save the game, every slot says that my HDD is full. Right....

EDIT: Putting the VorpalFix content in the BIN folder fixes this as well as adding a ton of improvements.

Yeah, there's a saving glitch in both the 2000 and 2011 PCs versions where the game doesn't recognize HDDs over 2TB. This glitch was never fixed for the 2011 version for some reason, so for those who want to put Alice on to a HDD over that limit, you'll need to install the attached VorpalFix mod file. Good thing it's in the .7z file, lmao

about American McGee's Alice

American McGee's Alice uses the id Tech 3 game engine, which was previously used in Quake III Arena. The engine was modified for this game by Ritual Entertainment, adding features like skeletal animation and dynamic music.

Overview of American McGee's Alice
American McGee's Alice is a dark fantasy action-adventure video game released in 2000. It was developed by Rogue Entertainment and published by Electronic Arts. The game is based on Lewis Carroll's novels, presenting a twisted version of Wonderland.

Game Engine
id Tech 3
Engine Used: The game utilizes the id Tech 3 engine, which was also used in Quake III Arena.
Modifications: The engine was slightly modified for Alice, allowing for unique gameplay mechanics and artistic designs.

Gameplay Features
Perspective: The game is played from a third-person perspective.
Combat and Mechanics: Players control Alice as she navigates through a linear storyline, fighting enemies and solving puzzles. Alice can use various weapons, referred to as "toys," and has a health mechanic represented by a "sanity" meter.

Please note, if you have the steam version of the sequel, you can literally take the DLC files for the first game and implant them into it and they'll be accepted. EA never officially gave the pc version the DLC but it accepts them all the same.

I hope this works cause it didn't when i emulated it on rpcs3 lol

How is this different from hosting console games up to gen 7 from those same companies? Piracy is piracy.
I don't mind this. As long as certain companies don't see this, we'll be good as gold.

It's literally abandonware, I never even said I had a problem with it, why is everyone persecuting me?
