Am i just out of touch?

Not sure how hot of a take this is but I don't think $600 for a comfortable and well built chair is that crazy. I have my doubts for anything with a "gaming" label on it though. Also I'm sure the really ergonomic ones are good for your back and whatnot but they are just not comfortable to sit on. It's most likely better for you in the long run to simply just not sit on any chair for 10 hours a day.

$500 for a casual gaming mic is absolutely insane though. That said, maybe $600 for a casual gaming chair is crazy too. I mean my current chair is salvaged from two different office chairs I rescued from work and I've been sitting comfortably on this for a couple hundred hours at least.

Recommending SM7b just for gaming and Discord is absolutely insane not only because its 500$ but it also needs an audio interface which is +100$ minimum. Gamers think if their favorite streamers use those then thats what everyone should get. And the funny thing is most of those gamers still use cheap headset mics. From what I've seen/heard HyperX Quadcast (I think) is pretty decent and its a USB mic so you dont need anything else. Cant recommend a good chair since I type this from my oversized, uncomfortable monstrocity that hurts my back.
Omg thank you for pointing that out, youre very right about it requiring a audio interface. Thats a huge buy in price of at least $500+$100

I might've bough my gaming chair a few years ago but I'm sure you can find a comfortable chair for 200$ or so. As for the microphone, I'm sure you can find great ones for 50$. Whatever those people have told you to buy is probably full of useless features a normal person would never need.

I haven't read if this was suggested before, but avoid gaming brands if you aren't already.
You are just paying more for less with those.

I fell for the Blue Yeti hype back in 2021. (i spent about $120 for the mic w/ an arm and mount)
Thing is, my Blue Yeti is still going strong. I use it multiple times a week for livestreaming and I have also used it for recording readings in an audiobook style. Never had a single complaint about the audio quality, even on a more professional scale. Obviously, YMMV, but I'm happy to join the chorus of "don't spend more than $150 unless you're trying to do voice acting".

I'd go with a nice ergonomic office chair over a 'gaming' chair. You're mostly paying for name and novelty with most gaming chairs, and they're not exceptionally comfortable, especially if you have a smaller frame(I'm 5'2" and most 'gaming' stuff is too big for me)

You want something with good back support to help with good posture.

As for a mic, I got a Logitech Orb(it looks hilarious) for I think 60 or 70$? It doesn't have a whole lot of customization but it works fine for what I need.

I second the above post about the Blue Yeti. You can adjust the size in space where it pulls sound. Lots of good features for not too much money.

Office chairs tend to be replaced after a year and they tend to be in good to excellent condition. If you know anyone who has access to them try to snag a free one.
Do you have any big charity stores nearby? Maybe they have cheap chairs for sale.

I think there's a trend amongst streamers and youtubers about microphones yeah. Seems holding an expensive mic is pleasing the algorythm... XD

You already got an AKG headset. With a small Focusrite Solo you could get a good headphone amp to drive it, and also a good mic preamp. Then you could get some indesctructible Shure SM58 and you're set for decades.

All in one USB mics and HPs solutions are fine but if the integrated amp dies, it's harder to repair and having a dedicated soundcard can help signal to noise ratio for recording.

I've used the same Blue Snowball mic for like ten+ years with zero problems, can't speak to a headset as I don't wear one. For a chair I usually just get something in the $100 range from a target or staples or wherever has them on sale at the time.

Was asking around for some suggestions for a mic for just casual gaming and discord, along with a reasonably priced computer chair. This was what was suggested to me.

If I pay that much for a chair it better come with reverse aging technology. Am i losing my mind? Is this the norm? Its like everytime i shop around for a headset, or a mic, people will suggest me a professional streaming setup.
Most people will suggest the overpriced things the top streamer/shill/tech reviewer says.
Oh! forgot my recommendation: Costco mesh chair and any mic that's not an obvious chinesse knockoff will do, USB(vs a 3.5mm one) has the risk of becoming obsolete 'cause of drivers but most of them will be fine.

I'm fine using a HyperX Cloud II headset and a mesh office chair from Staples. You really don't need top of the line stuff to game decently.

If you don't want a headset, I've heard that the Blue Snowball is a decent mic.

YouTube has turned into the home shopping network so I am not surprised that this is what people are buying now. I admit, I am out of touch but at least I still have money in my bank account.

A regular ass office chair, a 50 USD Fifine Mic on a boom arm, and Hyper XCloud II headphones is what I use.

You usually don't need to pay more than $50 for a decent head set. As for chairs you don't need anything fancy just get something with decent back support. Your body will thank you later.

I have $50 dollar headset from Steelseries, and nothing but my bed and lap desk and a tv and converter cables when needed, I haven't heard a complaint yet. If anything software can make all the difference in audio if you're that concerned, but casual gaming all you need to make sure is that you're clear, not peaking, no breakage and noise cancelation. Would like to get a nice throne chair but have no desk so there's no point. Sounds like you talk to streamer wannabes that believe all you need is the latest gear and free time and they'll make that DougDoug money in no time.

Bruh I don't even use chair
I just play/code in my bed
Oh and use a 2$ earphones ,they work like a charm

Im still using the original HyperX Cloud Cores from back when they were still owned by Kingston. Theyre still holding together, but I'd like to replace them. I'm told these days to avoid their products, and avoid gaming headsets in general.

Pretty much. "Here's a good entry level microphone..." and its a $500 mic. I understand its a matter of getting what you pay for, but I wouldn't be able to sleep at night if i made such purchases unless I was trying to be the next Pewdiepie or Taylor Swift.

For sitting all day, i recommend something that is see through, that way in summer you dont sweat all over it. Especially leather office chairs suck! These are really cheap and have neck support. Works for me!

No it's a USB Mic. So the soundcard and preamp is included. It's basically a Shure SM7 AND a preamp AND a soundcard, except you cant plug anything else in that soundcard and just like the other USB mics, if it breaks it's harder to repair and find spare parts.

And retail price is 400$ so all in all it's not a bad product per se but maybe destined for streamers or business people who just need a good mic for their zoom meetings and couldnt set up a proper sound interface.

Hows Razer mics? Apparently their gaming mice have improved alot recently. I didnt even know they make mics, but $49 seems reasonable.

I'm using the mini version of this mic, its great actually. Did some streams with it and sounds quality is pretty decent to my uneducated ears.

For chairs just buy an ergonomic office chair, they are far more comfortable.

I'm someone who would be considered a audiophile, the people suggesting these kinds of prices for casual gaming or discord are insane, if i was suggesting a mic for just that i'd probably suggest something like the logitech blue yeti at the maximum and that's around 100$.

If you want a headset set out a price range you want to spend and a storefront in your local currency (so i can price check) and i can come up with something for you.

Ive legit been using the same pair of HyperX since 2016, its been like the Toyota of headsets, still on the road after 50 years. Its just when you think, "maybe i should replace these." Like i have money, but if i spent $500 on a mic id expect people to be paying me to just to hear my voice.

If your just after a mic it should be fine, i don't have a whole lot of data on razer headsets and mics but what i have heard is most people love them, it's usually durability people complain about with razer (or their software).
