Was asking around for some suggestions for a mic for just casual gaming and discord, along with a reasonably priced computer chair. This was what was suggested to me.

If I pay that much for a chair it better come with reverse aging technology. Am i losing my mind? Is this the norm? Its like everytime i shop around for a headset, or a mic, people will suggest me a professional streaming setup.

I guess people will just automatically suggest what is trendy without regards to your actual needs, as that is easier than giving an informed, thoughtful answer (would you like help with this, by the way?)

Some of these products have gotten a lot more expensive but it's certainly not all warranted. I can't speak for chairs because I haven't shopped around for those as much, but I can speak for this as a quality cheap headset. You'd want to take the foam off the mic, but I have one of these and it's lasted me somewhere in the ballpark of 10 years.

Ive been looking around. Situation is this,
1. Im using the same HyperX Cloudcores since 2016. This gaming headset is resilient like a Toyota car.
2. Im told that gaming headsets are really just garbage, and id be better off with a headset and a standalone mic.
3. The AKG K240 Studios seem reasonably priced at $60. Took me a while to find these.
4. So then im looking around for a casual mic, and its not like i dont have money, but not $500 for a mic kind of money.

Depending on height the Staples Hyken and Dexley are really solid chairs that are often on sale for $100-120 especially if you are signed up for their e-mails they will send me extra coupons for digital orders pretty frequently and that's how I bought mine.

They aren't going to be as good as the crazy expensive ones that people suggest but good for the price with decent warranties. I feel like everyone always suggests going to your local business liquidation outlet for incredibly expensive chairs available for next to nothing but that definitely wasn't an option for me

I'd be wary of anything that has a "gamer" qualifier slapped on. Tends to be an excuse to force markups on the consumer.

$100-$120 seems reasonable. I just wouldnt be able to sleep at night if i bought a $600 chair, id be too worried id sit on it the wrong way. Ill keep Hyken and Dexley in mind.

I felt the same way when I was looking into a new chair. My old one was killing my back and I was trying to use memory foam car seat cushions to not feel like I was sitting on a board.

If you have a local Staples I would recommend checking them out and seeing what you think. I did a lot of research into it before deciding although the blue one being on sale for the same price as the other colors helped at the time and I got mine for just over $100 in combination with the $15 coupons they keep sending me.

It might not be as good as the $600 chair but the $600 chair might not be 6x better than the hundo chair

Yes, that seems to be the current trend. Gaming headsets are frowned upon, and alot seem to be suggesting avoiding them. Apparently Razer mice are good now from what im told, so things can always change.

The AKG K240 seem like a good headset. Probably looking to spend around $50-$60 for a mic.

I do too much research on this stuff. I cant remember how much i spent on my chair, but the armrests are holding together with electric tape.

Honestly i don't think you're out of touch, but we can't know what people wanted exactly nowadays unless they go on a 1 week rant about it or something, couple that with many people that wanted something but don't know exactly what they wanted in regards to technology makes people automatically suggested something that can be called as the "Best" or "Expensive" product of the bunch from the start.

Like for example, if one of my real life friends ask me about "Hey what's a good Phone?" I'm gonna ask them instead "For what?" otherwise i'm just inclined to say "A Good Phone? idk ROG Phone or something".

Edit: Though in this case the one who recommended it to you definitely just googling "Best Mic and Gaming Chair" and gave you the answer lol.

You definitely don't need all that for gaming and discord. I use a 60$ headset and a simple office chair and that's been more than enough for me to play comfortably.
Ive legit been using the same pair of HyperX since 2016, its been like the Toyota of headsets, still on the road after 50 years. Its just when you think, "maybe i should replace these." Like i have money, but if i spent $500 on a mic id expect people to be paying me to just to hear my voice.

Hows Razer mics? Apparently their gaming mice have improved alot recently. I didnt even know they make mics, but $49 seems reasonable.

No you aren't outta touch, a lot of manufacturer marked up their price ridiculously these days, gaming mic and headset doesn't have much improvement in recent years.
I'd buy the same HyperX as a spare if I were you, you know that it's reliable and comfortable enough for now, or maybe save up for something else instead?

As for chair, do not look up for gaming chair, go to local furniture store and try their office chair, pick one you most comfortable with.

Or get this, it can motivate you as well.

My chair was around $100, it's an office chair with a bit more comfort and cushion and it's sturdier with a headrest and proper back. I can promise you it's more comfortable than any actual gaming chair (used to own one) it's also 1000x sturdier. You don't need a $600 gaming chair. Ever. Even if gaming is your job. That's a completely insane price point.
My headset is a cheap $20 one, works fine. I'd use my wireless Sony headphones that I love, but of course Windows won't let you listen to more than 1 application at a time while on Bluetooth. What a garbage ass company.
Anyway, no, you're not out of touch. Your first mistake was asking people on Discord about advice for gaming.

Recommending SM7b just for gaming and Discord is absolutely insane not only because its 500$ but it also needs an audio interface which is +100$ minimum. Gamers think if their favorite streamers use those then thats what everyone should get. And the funny thing is most of those gamers still use cheap headset mics. From what I've seen/heard HyperX Quadcast (I think) is pretty decent and its a USB mic so you dont need anything else. Cant recommend a good chair since I type this from my oversized, uncomfortable monstrocity that hurts my back.

No it's the children who are wrong

I've been using the same office chair for 15 years and I havent died

Mark my words they're gonna make a 69000000 gamer chair with wi fi and ai armrests and it makes nfts
