So basically since there's sooo much region locked JRPG and Gundam games i'll said it i wanna learn japanese and heck i might translate it myself soo any recommendation where to start? Hehehe
As a lover of Shin Megami Tensei, I am mad there are a few not translated yet. The one that I've really wanted to get my fingers on would be, no doubt Devil Summoner. The demons in there are really interesting.
Frankly? Few things piss me off quite as hard as region-locked anything — a few years back, I got blacked out of the MLB All-Star game for some BS reason, and I can't believe we are still doing this shit in 2026.

It's only for if you enter in codes for keys like from Fanatical or something like that. Certain games can have keys that are locked to a region while others can be global. This doesn't happen if you're buying directly on Steam though
For me its japanese games that don't have multi-language support. Why not? Its not hurting anyone to not include them! Thankfully thats been fazing out in the last 2 gens
Anything Power Ranger related is usually region locked in Steam here. It has something to do about conflicts with IP holders here of the original rangers they were based on
There is a game I'm interested in: Chrono Squad but I can't get it since it's region locked here by Steam.
The real maddening thing about it is such things are probably expired by now by virtue of Power Rangers, Rita's rewind being readily available here while Chrono Squad is still region locked.
Some studios and publishers adjust the prices of their games for different markets, meaning one region gets the game cheaper to account for the value of their currency being different. 60 USD can convert to like a week's wages in some economies, so a publisher might make a game cheaper for that area. The region locking is mainly to stop some people from using their stronger currencies to buy keys that were adjusted for areas with comparatively weaker currencies.
i started hearing about games that were Europe ONLY (i'm in US) and was like wtf
like this one, sword of etheria in europe (over zenith in japan version), no USA release
(btw the japan title abbreviates to OZ, as in wizard of oz, this game extremely references that)
by konami, it's really fun i can't see any good reason it did NOT come to USA.
i first heard of this game from a Dance Dance Revolution song

on another topic, i've been some japanese only games using my android phone to REALTIME translate it with google, it works pretty well in most cases!
emulation games on my phone translate in real time while i can still play.
i was playing japanese FF record keeper mobile and the translation off my phone makes it 100% playable btw yes FF record keeper is still alive in japan only.
the only good thing about these new 'digital license world' is that at least companies are not even bothering to region lock (most) of their physical products.
