Here's some of mine, I thought about doing a top 10 but I clearly went over that number LOL. This is probably my favorite genre, with beat 'em ups being number 2, and Japanese rpgs in the number 3 spot. Oh, and don't stress too much about what counts as a "platformer". It's a rather broad genre that encompasses many types of games.

Oddworld is a great choice. I tend to think of them as puzzle games, but they are totally platformers too

I remember getting stuck way late into the game, during a section where you faced a giant tree boss (?) around a spiral arena that you had to climb.
