AI really gets on my nerves

I don't get why people have such a big problem with AI, other than it being a misnomer. It's a tool like any other.
It's a tool that almost no one knows how to use correctly. It gets shoved into real-life applications it has no business being apart of. I get that it has its use-cases but unless you've been hiding under a rock, it's very easy to see why people hate AI.

I use AI to teach me Arch Linux and its so much easier to just ask gpt or deepseek what im doing wrong than read through 347623 pages of the arch wiki. AI has its uses, and theres a lot to dislike about it (AI Slop, Environmental impact, plagarism, etc) but it all comes down to the use case.

Like everything else, it has its pros and cons.

I sometimes talk to AI to get stuff off my chest, and a lot of times it is fun to troll.

I do find those AI YouTube videos hilarious because they think they are being cinematic and shit, when all they really come across as is really awkward and unnatural LOL.
That’s how I use ai too, not for a replacement for humans but something to waste time with, I don’t use ai to make images but I use it to chat, I still do my own independent research so overall I really don’t use AI that much

Then tell me why I can't talk to a human being when I call/chat with customer service anymore.
because the idiots in charge would rather save a few pennies and lose the customers who buy and use their services and then charge the remaining ones more money for the product.
more or less like cable tv.

it's a dumb fad like silly bands or those ugly monkey drawings, it will probably die soon
OMG! I had almost forgetten about the NFT fiasco, an idea so utterly horrible that it was mocked by Ed, Edd and Eddy (whom, should be noted, were the masters of silly scams)... like fifteen years earlier.

I'm aware of all that but it still flies in the face of your comment. AI doesn't need to be competent to replace humans. It just needs to exist because the people you just mentioned don't care about minimizing the harm this technology can cause. Really disingenuous to go into a vent post about how much it sucks and post something so detached from reality.

that wasn't my intention. you asked why you can't talk to a human at customer service when you call. the machine is supposed to transfer you over to one if it can't help you after so many tries. if it doesn't, then it is poorly programmed.
if you want to correct the problem, then you need to convince everyone who is currently using a service or buying a product from the company in question to stop doing so. and when asked why they aren't customers anymore, state that the shitty ai machines are the reason why. the company will either remove them, or keep them and go under.
sometimes the best option to defeating something is to not engage or purchase. it won't seem effective at first, but it will over time.

The reason this doesn't work is that all the companies will make the jump at the same time. More often than not we only have the illusion of choice. There might be two or three big political parties where you are, but on several key issues they will all end up doing the same thing every time, no matter what they say. Business works the same way. They'll all agree, explicitly or tacitly, to fuck you in the same way, and then what?

Unfortunately, "voting with your wallet" has had a long, bloody history of failing miserably -- from the boycots to products of a certain origin to just not buying from shitty retailers.

then we do what Senator Armstrong said, "Tear it out by the roots, Burn IT ALL DOWN!" and then start over again.
some times a reset is what is needed. it works with electronics; i don't see why it wouldn't work with a fresh team of employees and a new boss in charge.

most people don't care. nearly everyone is perfectly fine with not disturbing the order of things as long as they are left alone. it's only when they are affected that they begin to care, and by then, it's too late.
more people need to be given information on this so that problems like this don't arise or occur.

AI has its place like any tool. For translation, say for people who want to text someone else in another language or someone who doesn't quite grasp a language. That's fine.

Art wise that's more iffy. If someone is using it to make art but not trying to pass it off as their own or make money from it then hey, no problem. Use it for making that D&D character you can't draw? no problem. Stuff like that, there isn't a problem with it. But when you get to, as the aforementioned YouTubers using it thinking it makes their videos great nah, pass on their lame ass.

I don't mind if it's used in joking or funny context sure. Again, I don't think AI should be banned or gotten rid of etc.. Just, it needs to be toned down.

This could very well happen again. The US Government of Defense recently made a deal with OpenAI. We're more than cooked. https://openai.com/global-affairs/introducing-openai-for-government/
Do you want Skynet? This is how you get Skynet.

There is no human to transfer me to. They are gone. Companies are completely removing their customer service departments because they know they can do so without consequence. I don't think you realize how widespread this is.

And what exactly am I supposed to do if the services I'm receiving are vital? Cut myself off so techbros can still have their "fun toys" without the guilt? AI is harmful. This nothing like the others times in human history where we've traded off manual labor for better technology because what we're getting in return for screwing over all these talented people is worse than what we already had. Worse services, worse script-writing, worse books, worse art, worse video production, worse children's entertainment, worse college graduates.

Technology is just getting less fun in general, everything is in one device in your pocket and instead of doing research yourself ai can do it faster, it’s not just ai, it’s technology and life getting to convenient in general and ai is the breaking point

what company are you calling where it is fully automatic? every place of business that i call still has at least one human on standby.
as for the techbros; they will inevitable tricked into building their own replacements; and they too will be out of a job. it's usually unavoidable.

The few times I've had to call banks and whatnot recently, you can still get a person by pressing 0 a few times. I don't know how many employees work for the call centers anymore compared to when I was there 15 years ago, though. I also lost my PSN info a few years ago (I don't ever really use it, but I had bought a few games on it on sale thinking I was going to get a PS4 soon, long story) and I was never able to be put through to a human or get any help, to the point I gave up. So I can believe some companies are shitty enough to have gone all the way already.

My fear is people will just accept the slop because we already do. We've been watching completely worthless content on youtube and tiktok and whatever for many years already, what's the difference? Hollywood has sucked most of the personality out of movies long ago, to the point lots of young people just don't like movies, because they've hardly ever seen any really good one (that plus their attention span is too fucked to get into anything worthwhile). But they still make billions somehow with lots of those bland made-by-committee blockbusters. AI could make movies like that. They're already made from the top down by prompts, just indirectly.

I don't know how you all feel about AI but it's really starting to get on my nerves. You almost only see AI-manipulated videos on YouTube, I really don't understand what many people have with it and what they actually want with it 🤷‍♂️ I think AI simply takes the soul away from many videos. Whether it's movies or games, everything is now being reworked with AI it really drives you crazy 😡😤 !!!!!!
The truthiest of nukes. My biggest problem is that it looks too clean, it’s uncanny.

what company are you calling where it is fully automatic?
My ISP, certain government offices (customer service is probably not the right term for this but I'm not sure what it), and a random assortment of companies that provide my hygiene products, tech purchases (except Newegg, they're still good about reaching the vendor) and billing departments.

It's likely different from country to country and if you're not experiencing this crap, I'm happy for you and hope it stays that way.
