It's a bit of a fake out. Muv-Luv pretends to be a typical rom-com eroge before switching genre and becoming a gritty space opera. This was originally a twist that your average player wouldn't know about so the name needed to reflect that.

However nowadays the cat is out of the bag and most people know about it being a space opera first and a rom-com second.

A guy in a forum section waaaay back told me to play it without googling anything about it. And I did and it was really awesome experience. I pity those who get spoiled of the transition.

I'll be honest the only reason I got a copy was because someone explained the twist of the first game. In my case that's probably a good thing because the entire of the first game seems to be SO MUCH "anime bullshit" idk if I would been able to get through it to even reach the twist.
I like anime, but there's a specific kind of anime that just grates on my nerves (see: Love Hina) and the game seemed like.... a lot of that.
Knowing it's all a massive setup for the REAL story makes me go "ok wait that's actually interesting!"
I was advised to skip the anime series of it tho.

I've yet to start it up but I am very interested from everything I've heard. apart from the twist I know very little else. I'm not much of a VN person but I'm willing to give it a shot.
