My parents are moving and they still had some boxes of mine from the late 90s/early 2000s still . I looked and found some old 3DO cases, games, manuals etc. I also found some ridiculous PC game instructions(Trespasser anyone?) Anyway I was going through boxes from my past and the very last one I opened had the 3DO in it. With the Return Fire disc still chilling out.

Picture it, Colorado, Spring 1995.
..I was visiting a local mom and pop style game store and I was looking for a Genesis game and my eyes instead hit a large CRT hanging on the wall with a Road Rash demo. As a die hard Road Rash fan I was immediately taken aback as to what the hell I was looking at. The shop owner handed me a bizarre looking controller and I started playing and he was surprised l was so good. I told him I have Road Rash 1&2 on Genesis.

He said hey, you want to buy this? I was 11 1/2 and I didn't have 3DO money. But he knew I had a Genesis and asked me if I'd trade in my console and games+ cash for a BRAND NEW 3DO.

Over the months leading up to summer vacation, I had saved up enough cash to take the 3DO home and I picked a hell of a day to do it as it was the final day of 5th grade. My summer was beginning with a new console and a haircut(ironically my last haircut for 28 years) I wrote about this in a notebook. I still have that notebook to this day. I wrote 3DO+Haircut.......For whatever reason my 11 year old self knew this was important.

The Summer of 1995 became an all time favorite of mine filled with legendary games like Need for Speed, Road Rash and Theme Park. Later games like Return Fire, FIFA International Soccer, Foes of Ali, Quarantine and D became regulars in my FZ-10 3DO. Late night infomercials, riding my bike until it got dark. All of these memories flooded back when I saw it.

That summer seemed to last forever, I guess that makes sense since I'm still talking about it now. Now I'm a 42 year old with a brand new baby girl. Life is strange but I am glad the Universe guided me into that games shop.

I'm not trying to be rude, I just want to guess the price for fun.

I reckon this user paid around 300-400 American buckos.

As far as the price I paid, I did trade in a Genesis, Sega CD and a Game gear. So the cash I paid was minimal I think, but enough that I had to save up for a short period.

Anyone insane enough to buy one retail at that point would have spent about 400 usd I think. Which is a terrible investment then knowing the ps1 is coming out.

The Sega CD was an awful disappointment to me then and still is to this day. Trying to find games I'm interested in emulating are almost zero. Besides Snatcher and WWII.

The game gear was a battery hog. And it never got touched after a while. I haven't played anything emulationwise or other from the Game Gear Since 94?

So in my mind I won because I actually played the 3DO a ton. Was it a dumb thing a kid does? Probably. In retrospect I wasn't sure if it was worth it as the 3DO quickly lost whatever desire it has by then.

But now? People are like WHAT? YOU HAVE A 3DO?I am very happy I made the trade. It's weird to see the journey the console went on. It was thought to be the next big thing but then, faltered because of price and lack of good games, nobody wanted one in the late 90s and now they are highly prized.

I did end up getting a PS1 for Christmas 95 and that derailed some of the momentum of the 3DO for obvious reasons. But I always held the 3DO close to my heart. I almost sold it years ago during the physical media boom but I couldn't find it.

Hmm, I didn't get my price answer but considering you traded a few consoles in and saved a bit, I wonder how much it was just raw with no trade-ins, straight payment.

After some googling I found that an FZ-10 model was $399 at the time I did this. The goldstar was $299 i think. I didn't know they existed until a friend randomly had one a year later.
