After 16 years my ps2 died : (

You can't figure that out for yourself?
Well I have limit budget this is why I research before you buy, like is okay to play ps 2 games on ps3 jailbreak but I heard ps3 easy overheat if you to that this why I research and asking

I am planning not go waste my money if is failed broke or not worth it.

No good, man. No good.

lolol

I have a Fat and Slim that I both bought from Goodwill that have survived surprisingly well. The slim (my daily driver) does get a tad warm sometimes and the clock battery is dead

Man my ps2 just died yesterday after 16 we been thought thick and thin well the happy times and sad times all my top favorite games was on this system.

Do I buy a new or just put the games on ps3 cfw jailbreak
Hate to hear that.

Now, when you say it died, do you mean it won't power on anymore or that the disc drive died? If it's just the optical drive, just use FreeMcBoot. As for buying another PS2 eh, that depends.

I assume you have a JB PS3 since you mentioned CFW. I would say just chuck them on the PS3 for the time being until you can find a cheap PS2 replacement.

The PS2 has a separate power board so if you wanted to you could just find which power board your PS2 model uses and just buy a replacement power board. The PSU PCB plugs into the PS2 motherboard so you wouldn't have to do any soldering. Just be sure to take safety precautions during disassembly and when handling the PSU PCB like wearing gloves and such. Be careful with the giant capacitors the PS2 power board uses. You could discharge them with a flathead screwdriver wired to ground if you wanted to. There are also PSU mods for the PS2 which you could use if you were so inclined. I use PCSX2 and I also have a Fat PS2 3000 model with the Grimdoomer mod and an SSD and the load times are pretty fast. But it's up to you.

No power no red light at all it all started that my ps2 memory slot 2 wasn't working trying to plug in and out and a sudden of no power.

I'd get another ps2. Henkaku at least is pretty bad about compatibility (or was, it's been a couple years), so unless you get an OG model it's gonna be hit and miss.

SCPH-500xx phat model by any chance? I saw a couple that needed repairs and thought I'd grab one to see if I can repair it. A quick search online and it seems these models suffer from failures with no repair solutions found.
Weird I say. I bought a SCPH-300xx that's been thrown around and stored in a shed for years and smells a bit...outside storagey and it still works.

Hmm, I wonder how much postage is for a PS2 to where you are...

Las time I checked Ps2 compatibility under PS3 wasn't still fully there: A lot of games run fine, but there were still a few that didn't run ok. I would either grab another Ps2 (Doesn't need to be a fat model, a Slim model loading games through Ethernet doesn't feel sluggish at all) or use PCSX2.

I have a way better PC but even on my PC it screams like donkey and the FPS is like a professional slideshow!!!! lolol (and that PC can play Switch 1 games better lol)

And then when it works some games have fuck graphics. Can't ever think I would ever be satisfied with playing on PS2 emulators!!! Hell nooooo!!!!! *dramatic scream* lol
your PC can play switch but can't play PS2?
somethings very wrong there lol maybe your settings are bad.

my GTX1050ti and 8gb ram and intel i5 run ps2 games just fine

it looks amazing on PCSX2
even at default x1 resolution it's better than a real PS2
never had bugs crashes or glitches of save data

so for me it's the opposite, after playing on PCSX2 i can't play on a real PS2, it's literally the best way to play ps2 games.

any really cheap PC can handle it, GTX1050 is like a 50$ graphics card online

The CPU of my "expandable Windows 10 PC" I use for emulation suck for PS2 emulation that's why, and I'm sure your i5 is way better lol. In general Switch games works better and when Switch games have slowdown relatively it's as how most PS2 games having slowdown. For example, most PS2 games work as much as how Astral Chain works on that PC (and it's the only slowmo problem I had on Switch emulator on my PC). However Ryujinx is unplayable while Switch games work good on Yuzu and its forks. Since the PC sucks ass there is not much you can do even with proper settings. Since it's emulation not GPU but CPU matters the most and a sucks CPU with way powerful GPU drags down the whole system.

So I know with a better CPU the tables would be turned but I already have a real PS2 + me good old CRT TV at home so existence of its emulator only useful for me to test out games, hacks, mods, debugs, music extraction, translation and whatnot modifications.

yeah my pc has huge trouble with Switch like a LOT, crashes and lags and such, barely at 60fps on anything
but flawlessly runs PS2, at 6x and usually a lot of fast forward
so still strange it's an opposite problem for me.
PS2 should be easier to emulate, but i guess its just my different hardware i guess 🤷‍♂️

i wanna talk about how i made a dumb decision as a kid ,
i made a choice to buy an XBOX (the old original) instead of a PS2
I absolutely hate myself for that choice lol,
especialy since I LOVE JRPGS, it was just absolutely dumb to not get one.
no Dragon quest 8, no persona 3 or 4, no kingdom hearts , no FF10 no FF12 ,no Disgaea 1 or 2
dark cloud, dot hack, xeno whatever, some tales of namco games, wild arms, star ocean, i can go on.

didn't play all those games until they got ported elsewhere (PSP, PS3, PS4, PC)
didn't have a good PC till about, 8 years ago about, that could emulate PS2 to begin with
now i have a ps3, ps4, and ps5, and a PSP, so yeah i didn't make that mistake again lol plenty of games i liked are on PS only.

i did end up with a LOT of XBOX games, the only exclusive i remember was like, Jet set radio future, Fable, Halo, project gotham, and phantom crash, and a lot of whatever was multiplatform, basically zero JRPGs on XBOX that i know of
my life would've been so different had i bought a PS2, or even a gamecube instead.
but then again, a lot of the games i mentioned above got remastered, ported, or otherwise sold again.

i never owned a PS1 either, but i managed to play a lot of those games via from friends or emulation when it was good enough to work.

I don't like how the PS3 emulates a lot of PS2 games so I'd probably just try to get another PS2, but if some slowdown doesn't bug you then most PS2 games play mostly fine on PS3 so I'd say just save the money and dump everything if you aren't a stickler like me. I played God Hand on PS3 one time and decided never again lol

What finally crapped out on it that isn't reasonably repairable?

I have a super slim so I can't even play my PS2 discs. With all the aging hardware woes I don't even know if it's worth getting another PS2 at this point. It's always sad when your consoles go.

When I dug my fat PS2 out of my closet a few months ago, I found out that it wasn't turning on anymore. It turns out one of the capacitors on the power supply had gone bad. I replaced the faulty capacitor and it started working again. Using freemcboot and OPL, I've gotten many more hours out of it since. Ultimately it's up to you what you wanna do, but it might be repairable. At the very least sell it for parts/repair if you decide to replace it.

Sad to see another PS2 lost.

As a fan of hardware preservation I'd encourage you to either try fixing it yourself, or at least selling it onto someone on Ebay or whatever that repairs consoles for a living. At the very least if they can fix it up and sell it on it'll keep on being used.
