Introduction
AWBW is a fan-made site where you can play Advance Wars online against other players from around the world, all for free. AWBW is designed with the 'mail chess' concept in mind, where all players of a match take their turns whenever they are available to do so. This means that games can be played at your own pace, with support available for both short, live games spanning hours at most, or longer-lasting games taking place over the course of days or weeks!

While AWBW is primarily based on and plays like Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising, it incorporates additional elements from Advance Wars: Dual Strike. This includes all units, COs, game mechanics, and more, for a completely unique Advance Wars experience. No features from Advance Wars: Days of Ruin are available.

Additionally, there are many new custom armies to choose from, allowing for games and maps that have up to a total of 16 players. Outside of these few custom additions, no community customization is accepted, in order to maintain AWBW as a (mostly) faithful representation of the original cartridge games.

Game Features
  • Online play with up to 16 players worldwide
  • All 28 CO's from Advance Wars, Black Hole Rising and Dual Strike (no Days of Ruin)
  • Custom balance and changes (including CO's)
  • Every CO has their own tier they are in
  • You can set game settings you want to play for matches (including 1v1's)
  • Ranked matches
  • Tournaments and other leagues you can join in
  • View current live matches in progress or ones that have been completed
  • Design maps for players to use. These maps get put into the library of custom maps made by players
  • Move planner and damage calculator on the website
  • And more!

i've watched a bunch of videos by mangs about this. there are tournaments and insane match ups between players. this, is what nintendo needed to make; not just a fancy graphics pack of a already good game.

If I had more experience with Advance Wars I could totally see myself getting completely addicted to this. Now I'm just wondering how long Nintendo will let this stay up.

this has been a thing for at least 4 years now. maybe they don't really care that much about the series.

they don't care for it. the reboot of advance wars 1+2 failed IMO.

For some reason, Nintendo allows Advance Wars and Fire Emblem romhacking. I would like to think it is because they realize that it just creates more interest in those series, but it is probably because it is under their radar. They have cracked down on some Pokemón hacking stuff, I think.

It looks very promising, I hope the project prospers in the future.

Rom hacking is generally left alone because for the most part they're not distributed as roms but as patch files which only contains the changes made to the rom and not any of the actual rom data itself.

well this is funny. i made an account on the site years ago and i logged in and it still is active.

yeah, they still host tournaments and 1v1 matches. the youtuber mangs covers some of the intense matchs that happen there, along with some crazy titles for the videos like "is it possible to beat colin?" and "breaking news: poland invades norway!"
rhis one was pretty good. been a while since i watched it. i'll be watching it again later.
