People tell me I sound like I'm from a place in the US they've never been to
I have no idea what that means, but I've certainly never been to any place in the US (nor any English speaking country)
I'm guessing a southwestern state and/or southern California? Why? Mainly because that is where you would find the highest concentration of various "Spanglish" dialects (Tex-Mex, Baja, etc.). Either that, or southern Florida. Although I am far less familiar with Portuguese than I am Spanish..

I grew up in Metairie, Louisiana (born in lower Bama, family moved there shortly I was born, moved back when I was around 8-ish) around a lot of people who were from other parts of the country (mainly New York/New Jersey) and trickled down south. I've talked to other people abroad who say that my accent is slightly southern tinged? But I really can't hear it

I don't speak Spanish and Spanish accents and Portuguese accents have nothing in common.
Either way, decided to check what a "spanglish" accent is and I sound nothing like that (obviously)

But in all seriousness it must be really weird if people say you have a accent from language you don't even speak...well for me it would be a compliment as I sometimes try a french accent despite only knowing few French words.

Also if anyone says I am disrespectful towards the French by trying a French accent I just reply I am of French blood comprende.
And last time I checked its okay to make fun of yourself
Also I was in the Patrie a couple of times and it was beautiful besides Paris sorry to say.
I prefer the French countryside. Its weird that I either have to speak High German or English to speak with my French countryman as I don't speak my native tongue I am deeply ashamed but it just was not past down in my Family (Well it was somewhat but it became worse over time and I barely speak a couple of words while my Grandma even still could count in French but hey I can count to Six in French for some reason I forget the other numbers so often)

I don't mean to offend. I'm just here trying to make guesses based off of a very limited amount of information..
That being said, was I right or wrong about the area(s) that people erroneously think you are from? :->

You didn't offend me at all, I'm just a major weirdo who can't write messages without them seeming weirdly agressive. I should work on that o.O

But yeah, you misunderstood what I meant XD
Let me try again. People tell me I sound like I'm from a place in the US they've never been to. So perfectly fluent but still just a little bit alien and they can't explain why.

No worries. So do they say something downright stupid like saying you sound like a "New York-er"?

@Retro Doomer : There is something that I've been meaning to ask somebody who natively speaks 'High German.' I've read that 'Yiddish' is just 'High German' written with 'Hebrew' letters. So does 'Yiddish' just sound like odd dialect of 'High German?'
The analogy that I've constructed in my head is that: 'Hebrew' is to 'Yiddish' as 'Greek' is to 'Coptic.' Since the only thing "Greek" about 'Coptic' is the written part of the language. But even then, there is still a few inherited 'Demonic' letters for sounds that otherwise don't exist in 'Greek.' Does the same idea apply to 'Yiddish'?

Yiddish doesn't sound like High German but it sounds like a German Dialect.I also speak natively Palatine German and only speak High German if I must.Yiddish is written in a complete different alphabet compared to German who is written in the Latin alphabet, but this as far as my knowledge goes towards Yiddish as I am not Jewis nor did I learn it.Yiddish initself is a Endangered language I think as most Jews nowadays speak Hebrew and not Yiddish anymore but maybe you can find some older Jews who still speak it.I hope this answered your question.
