I strongly recommend against buying the Miyoo Mini Flip.

Despite lacking a 3.5mm headphone jack, it relies on built-in Bluetooth with performance so abysmal that even the manufacturer, Miyoo, practically treats it as if it doesn't exist. The quality is simply trash.

In the "Retro Game console Gallery" on the Korean community site DC Inside, there are people claiming they’ll buy it as a "figure" (display piece) just because it looks pretty, but it’s unclear whether those people have actually followed through and bought it.

I've seen more of these in Youtube recommendations and some stores with low quality products.
Despite people considering an alternative, I don't like them and there are no reasons to get these kind of "Handhelds". I checked the Miyoo Mini Flip you mention and it looks quite basically like the Game Boy Advance SP, There doesn't seem to be proper specs on their website but judging by the price, It's far from worth it.

Now to mention why I don't think much of them, And I know some people are into these so I'm not going to be neutral on this matter.

- You can simply get an Smartphone that was released within the last 5 years and you will get a perfect performance with every "Retro" console game library (e.g. NES, SNES, N64, Sega Genesis/Megadrive, Sega 32x, Sega Dreamcast, PSX, Gamecube, Wii, PSP, NDS.) And even an Smartphone released between 2015 to 2019 will do just fine with most emulators; You either have a Smartphone already or can get a used one from not too long ago.

- You still miss out in modern games, Specially ones that simply have no stable emulation or ones that are in consoles like the PS3 or Sega Saturn. And again, If you're going to rely heavily on emulation, Either a smartphone or a PC is good enough. In this scenario you will pretty much get the original console that has no stable emulation, That is not going to cost much.

- Repairing with these custom handhelds will be more expensive and difficult, If it breaks, You will most probably have to get a new one, Not getting replacements, Not having cheap repair options available; And you're already paying a high price.

I don't think this is the best word to put it, but in a way, Getting a used cheap console released ten to fifteen years ago does much for an "Inversion", Specially a console that sold well enough like the PS4, 3DS (Ignoring the tiny fact the 3DS price is just going upwards), Wii, PSP, Switch 1, As you get consoles like these for a low price if they're used and you will save more money for repairing them or getting parts.

Anyway, It's up to anyone what they intend to buy, And I mean to say to the others to be more thoughtful of what they buy.

I agree tbh but i get why people like having an actual general handheld as in some places its rare to even find used old consoles. Im just super grateful that we're able to play alot of retro games on something as small as a phone.

I don't see what all the hubbub is about.

My handheld emulator:

The only glaring problem i see with the new flip is the possible hinge issues & the uncomfortable form factor, requiring a grip for play sessions longer than 2 minutes.

It supports headphones with a USB adapter, no? (Which is annoying but not a deal breaker)

Anyway if i were to get a device it would probably be an actual handheld like a 3ds, in addition to using a phone/ tablet with a telescopic controller.

yeah I gotta second this. Unless you're buying something powerful enough to do PS2/GC emulation then you might as well try and get like a PS Vita or a 3DS on the cheap over one of these janky chinese-made emulation machines.

I've not come across a single one that was more user friendly than a modified mainstream handheld console.

Meh, I'll stick with my Thor. Does what I want with little intervention. Not sure why people go sub 100 and expect any quality.
