A month later, what is your opinion on Silksong?

I didn't like the original game at all (apart from the art and music). I have no idea why, it just felt incredibly boring.
Though I haven't played Silksong yet, I watched a friend play some of it (before I got interested enough to stop watching so I wouldn't spoil it) with an open mind, and the increased pace makes it look way more interesting from the start for me. I usually don't prefer faster-paced games but in side-scrollers I definitely do.

Sorry, this didn't really answer your question... ::sailor-embarrassed

I get that a lot lol, and I had a somewhat similar experience with HK.
I do like the game, but the pacing is slow. If I hadn't stuck around until I got the dash, I probably wouldn't come back to it later. Your character is slow, barely has any dodging capabilities early on, and most of the time you can't even tell if you're doing something wrong (dealing low damage) because the game doesn't have many visual indicators (this part isn't much of an issue for me though). Still, the atmosphere kept me in, and boy am I glad it did!!

Too poor to answer, but in the bright side, Team Cherry is soft-dulling the challenge, so maybe when i can afford it it will be at least reasonable in difficulty, that said the gameplay videos i watched make clear why they took seven years

For sure. I have about 80 hours in and I've only 75% of total completion

Would you say that it’s necessary to have played the first one, or will I just miss out on nods and references and the like?

I’m fine with jumping in into a sequel head first as long as it’s not like Kingdom Hearts 2 levels of required reading beforehand.

The game takes the lore of the first entry very seriously, but I'd say it's still very much enjoyable if you haven't finished that. I recommend Mossbag on youtube, if you ever feel like understanding the lore.

The difficulty is the real deal though, this is NOT a forgiving game, so keep that in mind.

I gave it a few hours over a few days and forgot about it. Literally.

This thread reminded me that it existed.

It's hard as nails, but that's why I love it. I am obsessed with super difficult games, but my God, Silksong is probably the hardest game i've ever played, at least platformer wise. Most shmups are probably a lot harder, but just different.

I think the reason why Silksong is so difficult is because every enemy has like 4-5 hits worth of HP. They are god damned damage sponges, even the flying enemies just won't DIE!! The bosses aren't really that bad to me, and I know once I figure them out, I can win. It's the platformer sections with brutal enemies, traps everywhere, and pogo sections, that are like WTF. Lol.

Love the game though, it's great!

I'm really enjoying it a lot.
I love metroidvanias and Hollow Knight is one of my favorites. So its no surprise that I'm liking Silksong. It can be very challenging but it feels great when you see yourself improving and then you finally beat that tough boss.
Healing is a lot easier than in HK, so there's that. I also like how you can equip different items to change your moveset a bit. I like the Wanderer mask for faster strikes and a straight-down pogo attack instead of the angled one.

I'm at 82% and I have about 53 hours played. It can be easy to get lost or sidetracked so I guess your mileage will vary.

I don't think its required at all. You will definitely understand whats going on a bit better if you've played HK but honestly the story isn't that deep (at least on the surface)

Slow? I feel like Hornet is quite a bit faster and more acrobatic than the knight in HK.
Or maybe you're just talking about the very beginning before you get the dash?
I do love how you can run by holding the dash button instead of having to dash over and over again like in HK.

Sorry about the misunderstanding lol, I was talking about the first game.

It has been over a month and I don't know anything about Silksong. I got spoiled for Deltarune's latest chapters from video thumbnails the exact day they released. Take that as you will, gentlemen.

Unfortunately, I feel kinda similiar about Hollow Knight. It’s a neat game, but after around 15 hours, I just didn’t really feel like playing more of it.

As for Silksong, I tried it for about half an hour to see what's up, and ngl, I think it’s a bit overhyped. It’s definitely a solid sequel to an already good game, but it’s not exactly “breaking Steam servers” good. It just feels like more Hollow Knight.

I'll give them an another go after I'm done with Yakuza games though, maybe my opinions will change then.

Yeah, if you didnt like Hollow Knight then you probably won't like Silksong. There are a few small changes that I like, such as the healing and the sprinting, but for the most part it IS "more Hollow Knight" to an extent.
That being said, I think both games are really good metroidvanias, and I'm glad they didn't try to reinvent the wheel for the sequel.
