A PC that can run anything but the least angry of the PS2 games is something I still don’t have – but I am actually fairly heartened and somewhat interested in having seen many people on this forum swing by the more “cutting edge” linux distros and seemingly having very few problems running their computers and playing their games on presumably fairly new-ish hardware. I don’t actually use Windows these days – the game I’m translating is done in Wolf (Woah, RETRO) and that has always more or less run perfectly out of the box since Ye Olde Days, according to sister. I should probably upgrade my computer but every time I buy something semi-new, it dies incredibly fast, despite knowing what I’m doing to some degree...I might be cursed.
(idle curiosity, what were the PS2 games you had?)
It’s not that I strictly mind mobile games per se, but I also sort of feel like most of them are set up in a way that’s meant to capture your attention for as long as possible – making you feel like you’ll miss out if you aren’t always there, you know? I suppose MMOs might not be that different. Obviously there are loads of fairly nice, non-high maintenance mobile games and stuff out there, right? So I guess it kinda balances out..sorta...(still, ads, ads everywhere.)
In connection with flash games, there was a game called Enchanted Cave that was a flash game and then the guy ported it to a mobile version – it was a nice roguelike, something I felt like even newcomers to the genre could get into.
I still have a few relics from my sister’s flash-stuff collection, and her partner had painted a load of Walfas Touhous – made them in Create.swf and then painted them. Simpler times, perhaps. Hah. Maybe that’s a too into-Touhou topic that a lot of forum-goers wouldn't know about.
To be direct, I haven’t lost my legs, but to quote a protagonist of an obscure game “This new mechanical body obeys my orders much better than the old one did.” – I lose control of ‘em sometimes. I’d be completely honked if I needed prosthetics, yikes. Because of the intersectionality of this particular family, we’ve sort of met people from all situations and all walks of life, and we have this weird grasp and understanding of lots of peoples’ living situations and yeah, it’s...not good. Obviously, there are problems and hurdles and all sorts of crap to be overcome from all sides – I’m not going to get into a political debate or anything, but I do wish that people could have the bare minimum to become the best person they can be, that’s about what I’ve got on that.
I fear that this might have gone well past the scope of an introduction, and so like, I should probably declare “I’m hecka sorry for this.” BUT I’VE ALREADY PENNED A PIECE FOR THE WRITER’S GUILD BUT I HAVEN’T HIT 25 POSTS YET, SO WHAT EVER IS A PERSON TO DO?
In any case, the welcome already received has been much nicer than I expected, and probably nicer than what I’m used to receiving, and I’m bawling a little just sitting here, so I guess I kinda wanna stress that. Especially at this particular time of year.
