Hello everyone, I’ve randomly decided to show off my complete VHS Collection to you guys because I felt bored.

So here is the main shelf. Not fully full yet but almost full. If you’re wondering why Batman and Robin is on a recorded tape and not on an official tape is because I didn’t want people thinking I was buying the worst Batman movie. Also that recorded tape on the second row is Episode 3, because I didn’t want an incomplete saga, also didn’t want to shell out a lot of money for a South Korean VHS Copy of Episode 3 (South Korean tapes can play on American VCRs). Also the two films that are hard to see on the top right are The Silence of the Lambs and For Your Eyes Only.

Here is what is lying on top. I didn’t have enough room. Let me tell you something, the TV Show VHS Tapes were a pain in the ass to find, especially the Nickelodeon tapes. I just happened to be lucky to come across these. Yeah, and I also bought Friday’s inferior sequel, I guess for shits and giggles i guess. Also, I didn’t know until now, but the original Mad Max was dubbed in the U.S, which is very strange, my copy has the dubbed dialogue. Btw, I don’t actually have a copy of Wake Up Snorlax, it’s actually the Pikachu Party tape.

And finally, here’s the rest of the collection. Yes, I even got the shitty special editions despite already having the normal editions on VHS. The Seven Years in Tibet tape isn’t actually mine, they bought it but they told me to hold it for them. I got that “Lemony Snicket’s” tape for free, i just said “fuck it, it’ll be cool to have another late VHS release in my collection.” I’m also lucky that I got my hands on one of the many Promotional Nintendo VHS Tapes. Also, don’t ask why I got Dr. Dolittle. Oh and behind this stack is recorded VHS tapes, but I don’t consider them part of the collection.

Awesome collection.

I was born just before the time DVDs were taking over, I only have a few tapes in my collection (including Hercules lol). But sometimes I'm able to find something cool at the thrift for as cheap as $1.99 which is always fun.

Were the Nick tapes expensive or just hard to find?

Hell yeah! I haven't counted mine in a little bit, but I must have nearly 40 tapes by now. I always thought it was a little weird that the US, among other places probably, had their tapes in those cardboard sleeves. As far as I've known, we've always had them in plastic cases.

Very nice collection. I wish my parents and grandparents didn't sell off their collections to swap over to DVD's in the mid 2000's, they had great selections that I used to love watching when I was a kid.

Just out of curiosity as well; is that copy of Return of the King the extended edition? I know the extended versions did in fact get VHS releases, and they all came on 2 tapes since their all 4 hour+ versions of those films.

Nope, my VHS copy of Return of the King is the theatrical version. It’s just one of several double tape releases because the film is too big to fit on one tape.

Going through the stuff here at the house, I found a box stuffed with VHS tapes, some unopened still. All kinds of stuff ranging from tapes about steam engines to some Jurassic Park with a silver cover. I found my old tapes in a different end table, mostly bootlegged stuff but there was a handful of official stuff too. Multiple versions of Akira, Spiceworld, I forget what else. Then a stack almost as tall as me of the Disney stuff in the white clamshells. I'll have to take photos sometime if I remember.

They were just hard to find. I mainly rely on thrift stores to purchase VHS Tapes (which is where the majority of these tapes come from). My guess they’re hard to find is because young kids would either break them or play them so many times that the VCR would eat the tape up. Or it could be that Nickelodeon didn’t mass produce VHS tapes as much as their DVD releases as half of their VHS releases came out when DVD was starting to phase VHS out.

Grand collection i have my WWF videos and recordings up in the roofspace but the dust up there would take me out will probably need a handyman 1 day to get up there and retrieve stuff.
Aaahh, the good old WWF...

We had them in cardboard sleeves too, and some (special editions and stuff like that) in plastic ones... 🫤
