I've been really feelin' a hankering for Resident Evil lately, maybe because it's been getting closer to Halloween, and that got me thinking of what I'd say my favourite games in the series are. It's a series I've loved for quite awhile, blah blah I'm a huge fan, blah blah unimportant who cares here's the tier list. Some of it is probably pretty normal picks, but I think there's a few in here that can maybe turn some heads. The specific template I used here also has some strange things with it, like there not being Gun Survivor 2 (which would be the only F-tier if it was in), and not having a separate entry for the 2015 HD Remaster of REMake, which would be in S+ if it was in.

RE 6 in A tier? Dangerously based.

Not too far off from my own opinions honestly. I'd probably swap the original RE4 and the remakes spots for personal preference, swap OG RE2 and 3, and maybe lift Revelations 1 to B tier, but otherwise I agree with most all of this. ::fire

I love me some 6. If you go in knowing that what you're playing is pure action trash, you will likely have a great time. Also helps if you go through it with a friend of course, much like 5.

I never enjoyed the first Revelations much. I didn't like the scanning thing, I didn't really like the gunplay and the way it felt, and I really didn't like the disconnected narrative going on that jumped around. Just wasn't a game for me, I guess. I much prefer Rev2.

I have only played RE1 and RE2. I really like RE1. Never beat RE2, it's hard ::sadkirby

Ah fellow RE5&6 enjoyer ::bigboss

In my personal preference I'd put RE0 and CV a bit higher and put RE1-4 OG in S+ and put RE1R in an S tier if there was one here, again, personal preference/enjoyment

RE2 is I think the hardest of the original three, 1 you can kinda cheese easier with the more wonky animations and zombie grabs and 3 gave you way more weaponry to handle most things.

I've tried many times to get into 0, and I came to the conclusion that I cannot stand it. It's a cool idea with the partner switching, but I really don't think it was implemented well and I found it so tedious. I don't mind the story and set-up though, I liked the random mostly unexplained super leeches that are somehow capable of forming sentience through an amalgamated mass and it's a shame Billy never appeared in anything afterwards, as befitting the curse of the series' partner characters.

For whatever reason I have fond memories of 0. If you play the Wii version you can have the most fake coop experience ever, where Player 1 controls the main character with the Wiimote & Player 2 can control the partner with the gamecube C stick. Leads to some fun times because P2 is at the mercy of AI for auto-shooting lol.

RE 7 in D tier, thanks you sir, this game is bad but people will kill you for saying it.
The only thing I will change in your tier list is code Veronica to B tier and Village to D tier with the 7.

::thank-you Ok that makes me feel better, I remember it was difficult. Actually, now looking through my screenshots, is this at the end?

Maybe I did beat it? or is this only part way? idk can't remember... I need to stop getting so drunk when gaming >_<

I haven't played them all. Too many installments.

All I know is I love RE 4 (the original) and Dino Crisis (which I know is not technically a RE game). So that's my S tier. I like RE 2, so that's my A tier. RE5 was okay, it's C tier to me. I wasn't interested in the remakes so no comment on those.

In summary, RE 2 and 4 are the GOATs and Dino Crisis is right up there too

7 just isn't Resident Evil to me, I can't get around it. The gameplay is solid enough, but just the vibe was off to me; given that they wanted to make something completely different for a fresh start, I guess they succeeded. The story is also really odd in some places, kinda felt rough and maybe even a little rushed here and there. Village I preferred a little more for whatever reason, but maybe it was just because it felt almost like a FPS redo of 4 sometimes.

That is Claire's ending screen where you get ranked, so maybe you did finish it at some point.

RE 2 was a game I had to memorize completely to not just beat it, but get a good rank for an unlockable. You have to know it like the back of your hand. It's the only RE game I played for rank as I generally hate RE rank requirements. I love that the original RE 4 dropped them.

I'm with you, I never got much enjoyment of speed running and optimizing the OG's. Luckily it was entirely optional of course. I get why Capcom put it in I think though, the games are pretty short if you think about it so it does add some replay value incentive.

My interest in the series kind of begins and endings with 1-3+CV. I'm more of a fan of the PS1 era of horror games rather than Resident Evil as a whole. I live for the fixed camera angles and tank controls! Zero and RE1 Remake look to be in a similar style so I'll probably try those in the future. 4 is a solid action game but not really survival horror.

Yeah, people started calling RE 4 action horror. Dead Space really took that idea and ran with it to great success.

There's a reason that REmake is my S+ tier pick of the OG's. It is genuinely a defining game of the entire series and the genre, cannot recommend it enough.

::thank-youI guess that tells how much of an impression RE2 made on me, since I didn't even remember beating it :loldog Yea, I rate RE1 over it. I just remember RE1 being more fun.

Most people don't talk much about the original RE now, but when I first played it I kind of sensed that I was playing something special and lo and behold it birthed the most widely recognized survival horror franchise. With some games you just know. I got the same feeling when I played Grand Theft Auto III too

None of the RE games I actually like are rated worse than a "B" in this list. And REmake is in the "S+" category, where it rightfully belongs!

For that alone, I approve of these rankings, wholeheartedly 🍻

I wonder why RE6 is so high, and I mean seriously what's so good about it? To me it felt bloated and way too long, like someone jammed 4 relatively similar games into one and called it a day. Its not a bad game as a lot brainwashed people think but it gets so repetative that I can't see why it would be so high on the list. Also I'm a big RE0 defender and don't see why people hate it so much, but whatever, different strokes I suppose.

I can't claim to have a full list - only ever played mainline and the Revelations games - but of the ones I've played, I really enjoyed REmake, RE2make, RE4make, RE4 vanilla, RE7, RE5 and Revelations 2.
I also have a lot of nostalgia for the first RE, as that game was the first game to ever give me nightmares. Good times.

The rest was all good fun, but I either wasn't able to play them when they were current and would have hit harder or they didn't click as much with me. Not RE6 though. Never RE6.

That game is one of like two or three games that ever managed to genuinely make me angry and I'll always despise it for that.
That Mercenaries mode though... that might be the single best Mercenaries we ever got.
