Hello folks, quite honestly, a simple question? Should I buy a new Xbox now? ::thinking

I mean why not it´s not like the price will go down any time soon. And if you to the the money for it and it´s something you rely want I say go for it before they decide to increase the price even more.

The price doesn't interest me because I've saved enough money for it but I wonder if it's still worth it before the new Xbox comes out. Or should I wait a little longer?

If you wait a little longer then buy a PS6, since price is not a problem.

This generation of consoles is really not worth it, but if you really don't like PC for playing, it's better you get a PS5 Slim second hand as cheap as possible then when PS6 is released sell it and get the PS6.

Although Xbox Series S is a wonderful device if you don't mind digital only games.

It depends. How important is a disc drive to you? Because this might be the last generation to offer on. Also, Helix is likely to be $1K+, and there'll be a shit ton of cross-gen games once the next generation begins.

I'm not going to think about the PlayStation right now. I'm only talking about the Xbox. You should know that I haven't had my own games console since the Xbox 360. But now I'm ready to buy another one. Whether or not it has a CD drive is not that important to me but as I said, I'm not entirely sure yet. That's why I'm asking what you all think about it, because multiple opinions are helpful.

I really like the XBox Series X. I have a PS5 as well but it rarely gets used however my XBox gets a ton of play, especially now that the new Forza Horizon just came out. Also, the ability for some games to play on XBox and PC was a huge benefit to me and my children. Having said that, I will most likely sit out the next generation (XBox Helix and PS6) because I don't like a digital only non-ownership world. I'm old and I find between work and life I don't always get to play the games I want until later in the lifecycle and with games that stop working after a couple of years I may not have fully played through a game by the time it ceases to work. I still go back to my NES, SNES, Genesis, Dreamcast, Neo Geo, etc from time to time so being able to play games well after the console lifespan ends continues to be important to me. I most likely will no longer go the console route ever again and stick with PC going forward for any new games that interest me. I'm willing to miss out on a couple of killer console titles to not have to deal with the frustration of console systems as exists now.

Old man rant over....

Thanks, that's a story dude but it is helpful.

I'd wait till the price goes up again.

I couldn't agree more, about the all digital future.
Not to mention how easy it is for you to lose access to the games you "own", or even worse to have to deal with not being able to play "your" game because of a game breaking update. As well as many other issues. People like owning games, just to have it for yourself and to lend to others, or sell it. Corpos want to have total control of your games so they can change product placement mid release.

XBOX games are all on PC aren't they?
just get a good enough PC, everything comes to PC nowadays eventually.
maybe not even that good, just a rtx 3000s and a recent processor and 16gb ram and SSD. same cost of a xbox x probably.
here's 007 first light minimum specs to give an idea:
INTEL CORE i5 9500, AMD RYZEN 5 3500
16 GB RAM
NVIDIA GFORCE GTX 1660, AMD RX 5700
SSD required
as you can see NOT even a RTX graphics card, note thats minimum, the difference on recommended is:
INTEL CORE i5 13500, AMD RYZEN 5 7600
NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 3060 TI, AMD RX 6700 XT
and really game THESE DAYS is all "RAYTRACKING FRAME GEN UPSCALE" none of this you really NEED in a game, 60fps and 1080p works well enough, turning off raytracing ALONE is like half the GPU power used.

100% pc gaming is a huge benefit over anything else, easier mods, easier "Downloads"
console gaming is sucking this generation, my PS4 gets a LOT OF USE, but my PS5 not much (just playing ps4 games on PS5 it seems)

now if you WANT a console, get a switch 2, since you REALLY CAN"T play nintendo switch 2 games on PC so far, even if you could prob better on a real Switch 2, much much more exclusive.

I will probably have to take out a loan to be able to get a new graphics card and upgraded RAM.

i got a new PC at 900$ with nvidia rtx 5060, 32gb ram and 1tb SSD, and CPU ryzen 8700f 8core
its a HP omen desktop if you wanna look into it.
and you'll not need an upgrade for a WHILE after that...

i was rocking my gtx1050ti laptop for near 10 YEARS and that thing plays baldurs gate 3 and Forza 6 and
anyhing with less specs should be cheaper (you absolutely DO NOT need this high specs most game barely use all of it, that includes newer games like Pragmata, forza 6, Resident evil 9, and i'm talking MAX max graphics, you can lower some things just fine on lower hardware.

got a friend with a RTX 2060 and 16gb ram and he plays everything i play just with like "high" versus ultra graphics (barely anything on most games) you can get something like that around 600 easy.

you're gonna spend 600$ ish on a Xbox series X so it's not that much different.

and i'm not even getting into custom building PC or just swapping a part or two when needed.

I'll just wait and see how things develop for the Xbox. I guess there's nothing more I can do now.

It really depends how they plunge for the new console. I feel like the way they are going IS in a better direction, so who knows, but if the next xbox is going to be $1000, you genuinely might as well get a PC, because they are going to have to really pump up the power on an xbox to even match a $1000 (usually a brand new 5060, 32gb ddr4, and newish cpu) pc, but that pc will run 99% of games at high frames in 1080p. But if its closer to $700, then it might be worth it as a "set it and forget it thing", for easy gaming instead of like, fuddling around with the openness of a PC.
I have an X Series that I start up every once in a while, mainly cause i played on xbox since og, and am keeping for GTA VI.
I do not have a Switch 2, but that's also not a bad idea with the exclusives it offers and the price being much cheaper than all the other options, but I do hear about issues with higher end games.

As for the original question of should you buy a new one. Sure! It's not super expensive and plays games really great, but I feel like the new generation of xbox is going to be wildly overpriced (allegedly)
