I watch a youtube gaming news show called Spawn Wave almost every morning and it's a great show if you're interested in that sort of thing.
Anyway, the host of the show seems to be obsessed with games running at 60 fps vs 30 fps. I have never noticed the difference and finally went online to watch youtube videos comparing the two.
I STILL can't see any difference. Some people in the comments of the videos said that you need to "train your eyes" to see the difference.
However, if it leads to me enjoying 30 fps games less, maybe it's something that I don't want to train my eyes to do.
The fps thing seems to be a big deal to people these days.
What are your thoughts on this?

For me I can even handle 10fps to play a game that how my resilience are

In all honesty I really don't care about fps as long the game is playlable and pleasing to eyes and not bleeding my sight

I am kinda same way, if the game is worth it. Good.

One of my friends was VERY sensitive to 60 fps games. He was so used to 30 or lower FPS base FPS that he would get motion sickness or such from 60FPS games or even higher.

I myself... yeah, I seen the difference, but also not cared. Yeah I take 144hz game over 60. But I can play 60. Yeah I take 60fps game over 30. But I can handle playing 30. Yeah I take a 30 fps game over 24. But ok if you are fucking Ocarina of Time, I play it. Yeah I take 24fps game over 15fps, but if you are Metal fucking Gear Solid on PS1, I take 15fps.

Some People nowadays think 30fps is unplayable now. I disagree. Besides, if you boost the framerate of a 30fps game to 60fps, it can sometimes fuck up the speed of the game and cause screen tearing and input lag.

This honestly never mattered to me
Well, My digression goes by genre.
Playing a sub 60fps Rhythm game, Fighting game, and maybe some other genres I cannot even name right away suck. I can play something like Metal Gear Solid at it's PAL speed of 15 FPS but if it's a Fighting Game, even a shitpost like "GirlFight" The framerate of 30 or lower makes the game immediately feel as cheap as any other subpar fighting game.

Did not go with it in my first post but "The minimum acceptable FPS" is very much a genre thing. Even my friend who is lifelong PC gamer and 60fps evangelist could not tell that Death Stranding ran at base 30fps on PS4 since it was executed that well. I could tell, but did not care less really.

As long as the game runs smoothly and doesn't lag, I don't see the point of going higher for framerate. I hear people complain that certain games don't run at 60 or 120 fps and I am just glad it's running at a constant rate and doesn't slow down.

the pc master race wants you to think 60 fps is better but this image proves there is no diffe...jpg

Memes aside, iirc the human brain can be tricked into thinking it's watching an animation at 7-8 fps. Most movies run at 24 fps. More frames generally means more fluidity in the movement of the characters, objects and scenery.

Broadly speaking more frames is better but that will depend on the person and genre. Some people suffer from motion sickness when playing high fps games. As for genres - playing Final Fantasy X at 15 fps isn't a big deal for the most part since the game is turn-based and fairly slow by design. Playing Bayonetta at 15 fps would be torture.

Another thing is that stability is more important than fps. Rock solid 30 fps will play better than 60 fps that constantly drops to 40. Sure, it might still be more frames but you will notice the fluctuations in rendering speed and it might throw you off with all the problems they introduce.

The funniest bit about people switching to a higher refresh rate screen is that you will see countless stories of people who bought a 144Hz monitor and felt like such hardcore gamers only to find out months later that their monitor had been set to the default 60 the entire time and they simply never noticed. Placebo effect and perceived sense of superiority are one hell of a combo.

As long as the frames are playable then I don't mind either option, 60 FPS is pretty neat but I'm not exactly picky for my game frames. The only case I really need it to be really playable on a higher frame rate would be if it's a game that emphasizes on action but outside of that stuff like RPGs and platformers are whatever with me (also anything above 60 FPS is too much imo).

One thing is 30 vs 60fps, another is 60vs120/144/whateverfps where I'm always like "...it looks the same". WIth videogames 120+fps feels it runs slightly smoother, but nothing much radically.

I think this is a total clickbait. 30fps vs 60fps is noticeable even for my grandma. What is not noticeable for everyone is 60fps vs 120fps. And 1080p vs 2160p at a normal distance from TV.

But I find interesting this "framewar", as most people do not seem to feel 30fps is way better depending on the type and game look. I always ask the same question, regardless of how many fps you want to achieve in a videogame, what is the framerate you watch movies at?

in racing games you can instantly see the difference
i can play both btw, a good game is a good game afterall

looking at my icon desktop atm, i have Split Second (30fps) and Sega Rally REVO (60fps); ofc the controls response is faster on the second, btw i have played both a lot

Fast or slow gameplay, I rather have a stable fps target of either fps target, especially in games that have the gameplay camera's speed tied to the fps like games on Roblox and Quake 3.
I even reference this when Quake 3: Revolution, the unique version of Quake 3 on PS2 that came into The Repo. It was the first console version of Quake 3 to be at 60fps but was an unstable experience fps-wise and with that unstableness came slower camera speed which isn't great for its kind of action.

I have another reason why a stable fps target should be considered:
Playing Star Wars JK Jedi Academy (through Open JK) on a 2019 variant of a HP Stream 14 laptop (that had an AMD A4-9120 which is not a very good CPU) at the 60fps target, the fps dropped at the 40fps range (and lower at its worst) but also, and more importantly, my character was stuttering when moving.
I also seen this strange behavior on the OG Xbox version's multiplayer mode (though through the back-compact version on an Xbox One S) with split-screen.

Some games might have physics tied to the fps as well and an unstable one can mess them up.

I mean: they're literally racing and it's all about speed. Of course they would naturally be the best examples of framerate differences.

Anything over 1fps and I cannot perceive it.

I can definitely notice when it's 30 or 60 but it doesn't matter much to me unless it's a rhythm game, th 60fps can make a difference then but I still would play it if it was only at 30fps.

Unless something is really choppy, I usually don't pay too much mind to this kind of thing. This kind of worry is the gaming equivalent of car guys spending hours trying to squeeze out extra gas mileage or horsepower or whatever. You have fun doing that, I'll be getting where I'm going well enough.

I think both framerate-numbers are very playable .

Fluidity in the gameplay is much more important overall because its about the performance that should be stable ,even with frame-drops when alot is happening on the screen . Some games even are designed for the low-framerate overall in its graphics and/or gameplay .
