360 hidden gems (or games worth replaying)

View attachment 5797View attachment 5798
Tell me about it, I spent a sizable portion of my 360 years playing all kinds of lower budget Japanese niche titles that pandered to a more otaku-centric crowd. It's to anyone's guess as to why this was the case, I am left to assume that the 360 had lower development costs or fees or what have you, but boy did it ever pay out for us STG enjoyers and the like. I played so much Deathsmiles, DoDonPachi Resurrection, Gal*Gun, Raiden, Radirgy and others. It was great.
Let's not forget as well that Trouble Witches Neo had that funky localized XBLA release with the goofy dub on it, and it was great, I played this one so much in particular. I also now own the PC version of it, and its allegedly getting another release, which might be a sequel or just have updated content, I hope it's not censored.
Oh also Phantom Breaker and its spinoff, those were fun.
Bullet soul is great!

Also not 360 titles per se, but I eventually discovered sisters royale and natsuki chronicles. I love how the former is basically a waifu selector.

Going even further down has led to me Rainbow Cotton on the Dreamcast which is actually getting a rerelease !

I've had my sights set on Bullet Soul for a while since I find the art style to be absolutely gorgeous. As for Sisters Royale, I actually intend to buy that on Steam soon since its on sale, I've had it on my wishlist for a good while now.
I absolutely love Natsuki Chronicles, I've played both it and Ginga Force by the same developer, what instantly drove me to it was the beautiful soundtrack by Yousuke Yasui whom I knew previously from Mamoru-kun's Curse on the PS3, a shmup that I heavily recommend since its more or less a spiritual successor to Pocky & Rocky, one of my favorite shooting games.
As for Rainbow Cotton's re-release, I've been keeping up with it for a while, the developers behind it seem fairly passionate and they have been really respectful to the title, I look forward to buying it, which I believe might already be out, but their ports are often a bit overpriced...

Gundam Battle Operation. I had a 360 for the longest time and it flew under my radar.

Forza motorsport 3 and 4 the best ones in my opinion.

The trials dirt bike games that didn't get pushed into the backwards compatibility log.

There was a lot of cool early XBLA games and marketing games like sneak king from burger king and doritos crash course.

360 appreciation threadm, i like. I started colecting 360 games three years ago and now have more than 700 games on physical for it. Can not say how much the 360 has taken control of me.

I can not really tell much about hidden gems, but i'd recommend some of my favs:

For Racing, especially these days, checking back into the first Forza Horizon game is a reviving catch. Less of the "fortnite-y" gameplay action, more focus on the racing festival. A decent copy of Colorado let's you get absorbed into a glimpse of what race festivals would be like. Which leads me to my next recomm, the NfS ProStreet for 360 :D as well Carbon and Most Wanted are insanely improved in comparison to the PS2 adaptions.

Love getting back to the games in the console that had found remakes and remasters throughout the time, just to get the feeling of the vanilla game back, like Mirrors Edge, Burnout Paradise, Bioshock, GTA5.

Playing also Bayonetta on it rn, in addition to Just Cause 2, Saints Row 2+3 aaaand Final Fantasy 13 (wow, three discs)

If someone in this thread hasn't already suggested John Woo's Stranglehold kicks ass, also that weird compilation remake thing of the first 2 flatout games that I don't remember the name of but I quite enjoyed playing

Enslaved Odyssey To The West
Lost Planet Series
Kingdom Under Fire Circle Of Doom
Ninety Nine Nights
Eternal Sonata
Resonance Of Fate
Agarest War
Nier
Lolipop Chainsaw
Dragon Dogma DA
LOTR 3rd Age
Kingdom Of Amalur
Rise of Argonauts
Binary Domain
Vanquish
Deadly Premonition
Condemned
Dead Space
Bioshock
Rumble Roses XX

We like the same stuff, lol.

Eternal Sonata was really comfy. Not sure if it holds up though but I really enjoyed it back in the day.
Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey I haven’t played, but I’ve heard good things.

I wish they would bring back or make another Blur. Loved that game.

Also, 1 vs. 100 was a hoot online. You could (and I actually did) win stuff, cool stuff like full XBLA games. Why hasn't anyone done this again?

I'd have to look through the cases

I want to play the Mass Effect trilogy again, this time with all the bonus content. Stick of Truth I've been reminded of recentlu as well.
I can play Geometry Wars any time. Never say no.
I bailed on a replay of Dead Space 2 right when it was getting good. Other things came up.

idk if anyones brought it up yet but the muv luv trilogy was on 360 which are some banger vns. definitely not ideal to play on xbox for most people since that release was jp exclusive but i thought it was a weird enough release

There's two that I haven't seen mentioned.

1737434914906.png

The Kane & Lynch duology. Solid co-op shooters based in the Hitman universe with brutal stories. They have some cool unique multiplayer modes that may have inspired Payday.

Now an actually hidden gem that's rarely talked about. Eat Lead is this parody of the game industry where this Duke Nukem-type guy tries to fight against his publisher who's trying to kill him off. The gameplay is serviceable, being just more cover-shooting like a lot of the games at the time, but it makes up for it in character.
The game tries to be funny, and, for me, it actually lands a lot of the bits. There's a bunch of enemy types that shake up the flow like the fratbro space marines, Wolfenstein soldiers that turn their sprites sideways, zombies that are weak to water guns and a boss fight against a JRPG protagonist, menus and all.
It wasn't well received on release, but I think people should give this one another shot.

bullet witch is so good in the worst way possible

what do you mean?
its one of those super jank games that is still a good time for the right crowd. like if someone told me it was a 3/10 i would 100% agree with them but follow up with saying that i had a lot of fun. i started to question if i was having fun in spite of the jank or because of it while playing it and im still not sure

To me (at the risk of sounding like a super weeb), a lot of Bullet Witch's problems came down to Atari not only butchering the game's Western release on Xbox 360 — from making your guns woefully weak to the point of the Shotgun being virtually useless, to making Western players pay money for the Concept Mission DLCs which were originally free in the Japanese version — they also hyped up the game to have new features and improvements like improved lighting, better framerate, or higher res textures or something along those lines that turned out to be lies in the end. My experience with Bullet Witch came from the 2018 PC port by XSEED which, while that port has some jank and porting issues of its own (that sadly Marvelous won't address since they abandoned it), the gameplay felt more enjoyable and each of the guns at least had more purpose than in the Western Xbox 360 version on top of being able to play it in higher framerates if your PC can handle it.
