2D vs 3D Platformers?

Thoughts on both of these? It seems like it took developers a good long while to fully find a way to have Platformers work in 3D but even now (especially with having to rotate the camera), it's not without it's issues

Personally I've preferred them 2D or 2.5D. But there are some like Jumping Flash! and Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time that do interesting things with the genre

Most 2D platfomers are puzzles. They are less about platforming and more about solving riddles on the go.

Most 3D platformers are collectathons. They are less about platforming and more about collecting shit from the ground then platforming.

4D platfromers on the other hand are the real deal
