yes it's acting greedy and the whole gaming industry is going down this path from a long time ago tbh but this time Nintendo Killed it specially after the announcement of Switch 2 considering how they didn't do anything new and risky like they used to do
Nintendo consoles tend to be released as "same thing but 2 versions" in a row so naturally Switch 2 is the 2nd version of the same console. Gotta think if Nintendo don't do anything creative anymore after Switch 2 when Switch itself is very creative due to its hybrid console nature. Still it's better than what Sony does by spamming tons of different versions of same console lol. Gotta blame Sony for not releasing a decent console since PS2 instead... well technically PS Vita was the last "creative" approach but they wasted the whole potential of it.
(it's notable how the majority of gamers these days only care about 4K resolution and nothing else so Switch 2 is also doing what most of the fans demanded from them I guess).
This is still left on PC Master Race™ preference actually. Console gamers loves low quality lolol. I mean me meself playing me consoles in their original intended low quality ways because they look "better" lol. For example PS2 games on CRT TV beats 4K modern screen setup for me!!!! lol
But then why Nintendo cares about 4K now? They realized people buy their console and game but prefer to play on their PC for 4K + higher FPS. Nintendo, and in general Japanese video game companies relatively only recently realized what is the deal of PC gaming and why people think it's better. That's why to attract PC gamers, that actually "high quality gamers" they took a necessary choice they had to make alongside with every console company like a decade ago lol.
yet, regardless I still think we would need Nintendo even at it's current state, imagine the gaming world without Nintendo we would be left with almost nothing the Sony and Microsoft have mostly lost their identities at this point and we wouldn't have a big budget company making consoles with cartridges that reminisce and celebrates the old-school gaming spirit, so I think if we want to really challenge something it shouldn't be Nintendo but this path gaming industry has been heading in for many years.
I never liked Sony and Microsoft games, yet what you mention is why Nintendo can still exist by using "old school" BS that's "ancient technology" just for nostalgia. While I dislike Sony and Microsoft games, I dislike Nintendo "games" more because they are more like programs designed to make little kids just distracted. They are not in my definition of a video game at all lol, same as Sony's Korean drama simulators to mindless killing simulators of XBOX. They are no game, they are a program version of primitive biological wish stimulators lol.
So when Nintendo had die out we could finally play portable games via better ways because then Sony and Xbox would take the risk in portable market. Nintendo's existence in portable gaming industry is like a damn rock blocking whatever good can happen. Kinda gotta blame why Sony decided to make PS Vita reduced to visual novel and 2D rubbish game console because they had no other way to make a difference against Nintendo's portable consoles. And existence of Switch made Microsoft gave up on portable XBOX console. Possibly lots of potential legendary games are missed out just because Nintendo dominates that market with its low quality ancient childish rubbishes lolol.
In the end I don't care about preserving how video gaming was like. I have no sense for nostalgia and I don't want new games and consoles intentionally developed in ancient way. I will always ask for improvement to be in the future, not stay in the past.
What will save video game industry is destruction of Sony and Nintendo and Sega releasing video game consoles again. Sega is love, Sega is life!!! Gotta thank Sega for actually making video game industry about video games, otherwise industry would die in NES era because games were that shit lolol. Without SEGA video gaming would be very short temporary "trend" that would quickly die out because things were so generic but Sega changed it!!! Console wars between Sega and Nintendo made Nintendo release console and games that people enjoy just because they learned from Sega!!!! Go to nearest shrine and always pray and thank that if you enjoy video games now it's because of Sega!!! "Sega fan boi level over 9000 lolol*
