2001

Ah, we slowly getting to golden age of video gaming lol:

1) Silent Hill 2. (I still see this town when I close my eyes. I still feel its wind on my cheeks and I remember what I put into the trunk of my car lol.)

2) Max Payne. (I found myself on a stage where I breathe pain, death is my tail, gunshots are my lullaby, blue and red lights betray and my name is the exhale but I have no idea when I became the lead actor of a tragicomedy puppet show.)

3) Gitaroo Man. (I'm losing my brain cells but it's so fun and funny lol)

4) Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone

(I'm glad my PS1 still has an use!!!)

5) Flower, Sun, and Rain. (I never left that hotel room since 2001 because time locked my door and my door is made of spacetime lol)

1. Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty
2. Super Smash Bros. Melee
3. Capcom vs SNK 2
4. Conker's Bad Fur Day
5. Mega Man Battle Network 1

Extras:
Sonic Adventure 2 (Battle came out in 2002).
Super Mario Advance 2 (GBA port of Super Mario WORLD).
Jak and Daxter
Halo Combat Evolved (didn't finish it yet).
Pokémon Crystal (a much better gen 2 experience)

Wow I guess Metal Gear Solid 2 is not hated anymore because "where is my beloved Snakeeeeeeee? Kojima you scammed me who is Raideeeeeen? This game is not solid at alllllll!!!" lol

Funny thing is...i was born in 2001, February 17, and honestly growing up during the 2000s has been without a doubt a blessing, yeah i missed the 80s and 90s, but i could experience them thanks to the internet, it's funny, because you literally have to take 1 digit to the last two numbers of the whole year (2025, 25 minus one is my age, 24) and it has been quite the journey, the first games i played was Super Mario and Contra on a NES, and then Sonic Adventure on a PC thanks to the DX version, and then so many more, honestly the first years of the 2000s were truly the best gift as a child i could ever have.

I was also born in 2001, that is, on March 12 and for a reason my username is called that.

Honestly as long as you didn't grow up America and Japan as a gamer the video game timeline you experience is delayed like 10 years with great exception of few European countries. For example I had no idea rest of the world play PlayStation 1 when our gaming culture was blasting with Sega Genesis as if it was the best world had lol. We knew about NES as fake ones and honestly no one probably saw SNES where I lived back then because we had Sega Genesis so no need for anything else!!!

Now thinking about it, existence of PlayStation 1 may be intentionally delayed in my country when you can sell the Sega and its games to make profit until you empty the stocks lol. BTW I don't mean these are officially sold, it was mostly sold "off record" as pirated way. I was grown enough to have connections to learn about what's going on outside my country and learn about Playstation 1 at the time. I did anything in my power to get a Playstation 1 from Japan and did a lot to able to play it in my country because power stuff works differently, same as PS2. It helped me to improve my Japanese though lol!!! But why "Japanese one" you may ask and I can say it was easier for me at the time and until I played Morrowind my English wasn't good enough to even have conversations but was enough to beat English games lol.

Long story short, huge part of the world experienced a delayed video game culture and mostly Chinese suffered from it due to bans as if video games would cause China to fall lol, therefore we are aware of video games even Americans and Japanese people of our age has no idea of because we had no other game but these old games to play lol. Sometimes non-popular games made it to our country as if they were so bad they just trashed them so some random trader got the games and sold around in our country so the sense of which games were even popular is so different comparing how I grew up and how these countries where video gaming was in real-time and more popular lol. So we have no sweet memory of "one christmas my parents gave a me a box and there was PlayStation 1 in it!!!!", my memories is mostly about doing some BS jobs and deal with annoying people just to even buy Sega Genesis and it was way hell to buy its games and it was mostly in the way learning which person owns what game and persuade them to sell the game. Sometimes people got violent to get the games so sometimes people broke enter to steal the games because there was no copy of the game around. Most of the games had like 20 copies in the whole town. That's why I still keep my Sega Genesis and its games and they are my precioouuuuss lol, I even had to beat a kid to get one of the games because it was like a "fighting bet" of "you win I give the game, you lose you'll give me one of your game" bet lol. If you lose but don't give the game then your street rep gets so down even grocery shops won't sell anything to you, man lol. And that's the story of my "delayed video game culture" lol.

2001. The year I first learned of emulation and abandonware, two magic words that guaranteed that I'd still have a satisfactory gaming experience throughout the rest of my teenage years even as just about everyone else lorded it up with the PS2.

A fine year for discovering older games. :)
