I'm going back to my home country in a few months so I'm setting up a bunch of 2-player games for me and family members.

I've already got shmup and fighting games with a few racing games here and there, but I wanted to ask if you guys had specific titles in mind.

Any and all genres and platforms are welcome.

As this can also help not just myself, but anyone else looking for good 2-player options. ::handshake

Split-screen Burnout: Revenge is one of the best things you will ever share!

Quake III: Revolution is also excellent.

A bit of a wild one? Xiaoling Showdown on PS2 — It's a great, largely unknown multiplayer game that just rules.

Worms Armageddon or World Party are always a blast with a bunch of people.

If you can set up several PCs/laptops in a LAN then you could try a bunch of RTS games like Age of Empires 2 or Empire Earth.

Games like Mario Party and Smash Bros are always really popular. Wii Sports can be a lot of fun too. You can choose between 2 players and more.

maybe try a good free opensource kart game.... super tux kart.

or... some group games like... gang beasts, pummel party, the already said Worms (but i prefer hedgewars).

some bomberman games have a split-screen "coop campaign" that you and other player do the levels against CPU enemies and them fight a boss and such, 'super bomberman R' have this mode.

PS2 have a "plataform fighting mortal kombat" that can be played coop...i think it is named mortal kombat shaolin monks or something like this

hope to have helped, somehow

I find the lack of Mystical Ninja disturbing.

I always liked to play NES games with my family. There are a lot of good 2-player games on NES.
Battle City
Contra
Micro Machines
Mario Bros
Chip'n Dale Rescue Rangers
Ice Climber
Bubble Bobble
Balloon Fight
Clu Clu Land
Snake Rattle'n Roll
Thunder and Lightning
Spy vs. Spy
Ms. Pac-Man
Those my favourite NES games to play with family. I hope i helped you a little.

I would also like to add Shadows over Mystara, Scott Pilgrim vs The World: The Game, Fight n' Rage, and Castle Crashers. Since Brawlman already mentioned Shredder's Revenge, Marvel Cosmic Invasion is by the same people and has, like, a million characters in it. Stay away from anything Konami has ever made in that regard, they aren't as good as you remember. Especially the Simpsons and X-Men games.

Devil May Cry 3 is also a co-op game, but only on the Switch and only in Bloody Palace, when Vergil is on Screen or after Dante unlocks Doppelganger style.
But if you and the other guy know what your doing, it's stupid dope shit.

Recently, the Gotcha Force community patch got put on the Repo, and that one adds co-op to single player as well as multiplayer and challenge modes, but make sure to have one guy have Cyber Mars/Machine Red while the other guy has Cyber Atlas/Machine Blue.

Don't ask why, just trust me...

If you're in it for the long haul, there's also, like, a million 6th genration dungeon crawlers you can play. Dark Alliance, Champions of Norrath, X-Men Legends 1 & 2, Marvel Ultimate Alliance, and Digimon World 4. No, I spelt that right, Digimon is a 4 player dungeon crawler that's somehow a sequel to the pet-raising sim on the PS1, don't ask me why. Gauntlet, of course, is the kind of this category, with Dark Legacy being the GOAT or GOATs (get the Gamecube version, that let's you save power-ups for later). There's also the one from 2014, which is pretty decent, whcih you can get on PC as a "Slayer Edition" after they took the old one down. I'm not quite sure is Seven Sorrows on the PS2 is good or bad, I'm still trying to sort that one out.

Nobody's mentioned Resident Evil 5 yet, which is always better with a friend, and while 6 is not that great, both still have awesome Mercenaries modes (which are co-op, unlike the earlier ones).

You love it....

Now you did. You happy? I also like giving people a chance to name other stuff.

House of the Dead 2 & 3 on Wii. Pretty much almost any rail shooter on the console.

WHY DIDN'T I THINK OF THAT!

It should go without saying that Wii renditions of Lightgun games are almost always the best versions, since they are using the native controllers without peripherals. Plus, there's also tons of NEW lightgun games that wouldn't have been released otherwise.

Also, Overkill is edgelord garbage trying to be a shitty grindhouse movie, and pretty much has nothing to do with HoTD, but it's actually pretty good. Stay away from the remakes.

I would not even call it edge lord. Dark in some places, but very self aware in the right places. The game does make me laugh, but it really doesn't have much replay value once your done, or get the auto shotgun. It's actually one of better grindhouse inspired games. That, and Shadows of the Damned. Both are much better than WET, on all sides.

Ghoul Panic

Rescue Shot

Bishi Bashi Special

Bugs & Taz: Time Busters

Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance

Halo 1 & 2

Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance
Potentially controversial opinion: I'd skip right to the sequel.
X-Men Legends 1 & 2
I'm playing these now with my son, great games!

There's some fun Dreamcast titles like Dynamite Cop! and Zombie Revenge, these are crowd-pleasers.

The world cup is coming up, might be a good time to whip this one out.

Enjoy spending time with family, happy gaming @extermist!

Fr MK shaolin monk is the best PS 2 co-op i can recommend

another one would be Black Hawk Down

i mean what platforms do you have access to...?
i'll assume PC and all emulation on PC in this post since idk lol.

River City Ransom on NES, the original is 2p co-op
1780017830750.png

yeah the game has remakes (on GBA best one, but ZERO multiplayer) and reboots (rival showdown is 2 players but VERY different game)
there's also River city underground which is 4 players but idk... i didn't like it over the original game.
also check out River city girls 2, 4 player co-op (WITH the double dragon DLC, you get about 8 characters)
1780018159118.png

on that note, if you like THAT kinda game, both scott pilgrim vs the world, and Scott pilgrim EX are fun 4 player co-op games (scott EX is VERY short though, like unless you're gonna clear all 7 characters for each ending, it's about a 2-3 hour game per character)
1780018411553.png

anyways a lot of beat-em up games in this topic so i'll summarize quickly beyond that:

Guardian heroes (360 port if you can since it's much improved) one of my favorite beat em ups
Marvel Cosmic invasion, 4 player old school style arcade beatemup
D&D shadow over mystara, old arcade beat em up, very nicely done
Castle crashers, chaotic cartoony beat em up
Post automatically merged:

damn i forgot one of MOST FAVORITE CO-OP GAMES EVER

if you're playing this alone i HIGHLY recommend the GBA river city ransom EX, but it's entirely 1 player on GBA.

Second, Third, and Fourth'd Shaolin Monks. That shit is golden, and it's crazy to think that it's just so good, and makes Tekken (Death by Degrees) and Virtua Fighter (Virtua Quest) look like chumps. Sure, it was after years of failed spinoffs like Subzero Mythologies, and Special Forces. But Shaolin Monks is worth it. I am not taking that back.
