5. Doom II
Honorable mentions:
Donkey Kong Country - Almost made it but I think its design has some holes where the trial and error is unfun. Plus, saving your game is inconvenient for zero reason.
Donkey Kong ‘94 - WAS SO VERY CLOSE but I just haven’t played enough to justify its spot.
Ridge Racer - All the jokes about “no content” apply to this one. More than that, the gameplay is GOOD! But only good. It’s not Daytona, it’s nowhere close, and any insinuation that it ever was is insulting. Still almost made it though.
Jazz Jackrabbit - I just get this vibe that I would love this game. It can’t make the list because I have not played it, but I just know I’ll have to check this game out at some point.
Virtua Fighter 2 - List had too many SEGA reps already, and I prefer the Saturn version, which came out in 95. Sorry VF! I still love you!
Super Street Fighter II Turbo/X - Listen, it’s the gold standard, but I haven’t played enough and I simply don’t rock with it a ton on the gameplay front. I’m more of a Third Strike person. It’s worthy of the respect though.
