Game Description:
Tōshin Toshi (闘神都市) is a Dungeon Crawler/RPG video game published by Alice Soft and developed by Alice Soft released on 1997 for Microsoft Windows.
Warning: Explicit content and adult themes.
Tōshin Toshi is an erotic anime style RPG similar to the Rance series and set in the same universe. Navigation in town and dialogue with characters are done from a first person perspective. In dungeons, the perspective switches to top-down. You explore the dungeons and fight random encounter enemies in turn based combat. In the town, you can stay in the inn, buy supplies, or enter the tournament in the Colosseum.
Custom, a swordsman from a small village, is on a journey when he comes across a carriage being attacked. He defeats the attackers, rescuing the lovely maiden Kumiko. Kumiko was on her way to Tōshin Toshi (Combat God City) to search for her father. She suspects her father is in the Combat God Mansion, residence of the annual combat tournament's champion. In order to get in, she needs to partner up with someone who can win the tournament that year, and Custom agrees that she can be his partner. They head to Combat God City to enter the tournament.
Although victory in each round of the tournament earns one gold, special medicine, and other wonderful prizes, perhaps the most interesting prize is the opponent's partner. Each participant is required to have a beautiful female partner, and if the participant loses in combat, the victor gets his or her partner to do with as he/she pleases for one night. Female warriors in the tournament can choose to act as their own partner, as does the ninja Yayoi and swordswoman Morris.
A monster-filled underground maze is located on the outskirts of Combat God City. One of the requirements to participate in the tournament is the retrieval of a Hero Crest from there. While the Hero Crest is on the first level of the labyrinth, there are several more floors and surprises waiting deeper inside.

This is a direct port of the 1990 PC-98 version of the game to Windows through an interpreter application for the game engine (called System 3.9) which was released as part of a 4 disc compilation of Alice Soft games in 1997.
To start the game just run System39.exe, the .ini file can be used to alter some of the game settings.
This game uses MIDI for music playback. While there's a "CD" option for audio this game doesn't really have CD audio (it was only like 8 MBs after all) and instead if that is enabled it plays MIDI audio through a built-in Roland MT-32 synth in the interpreter. I made it so that you can control the MIDI and use your own output instead of the interpreter's (since Roland MT-32 sounds kinda lame sometimes and an alternative option is nice)
In order to do that you'll need to install and configure the two setup .exe files I provided for CoolSoft's VirtualMIDISynth and MIDIMapper (they work together to function) You can go to those pages to learn more about them and how to use them. There are other MIDI mapper apps to choose from if you wanna look around for one, but those are my favorite. You can use the Roland SC-55 sound canvas soundfont that I provided within the download or you can find a different one from online or my collection of them on MEGA. Make sure to set your soundfont in VirtualMIDISynth's configuration and that the default MIDI device in the MIDIMapper Configurator is VirtualMIDISynth #1. In order to set the output for them in the game go to the O tab and then down to MIDI and pick CoolSoft MIDIMapper from the list. If it works VirtualMIDISynth will appear in your icon tray and you should be able to tell the difference in audio.
You can use a controller with this game too. In order to do so, with a controller connected start the game exe and click the second option in the O tab. I think this is what enables the controller since it worked for mine. If not just click the other 2 options, but I'm sure it's the 2nd.
