Between the ages of 6-9 I used to ride the school bus, which meant that I had as much as 45 minutes to kill between the time my mom would wake me up and the bus would arrive at my doorstep. I was usually allowed to play on the PC (but, strangely, not the consoles) to pass the time.

My favorite game to pass the time with? One Must Fall 2097 (Shareware Version). It was so easy to pick up and play that it became my go-to for that morning ritual.

What about you?

Mortal Kombat Trilogy. All my schools were within walking distance. The older I got the farther my school was from my home but my legs also got longer so it evened out lol. After waking up, eating breakfast and getting dressed I'd usually have about 20 minutes or so before I had to leave. Just enough for a couple rounds of getting destroyed by the ridiculous ai (or setting the CPU level to the absolute lowest it could go and activating 1-button fatalities).

I had like 10 minutes before going to school (if I did prepared earlier) so no time for consoles, laptops or anything that takes a long time to load
My solution to that?…Phones. Now at that time there wasn't much games on phone devices but fortunately it has at least a game where I can kill pigs with birds and kill zombies with plants

Great times though, I kinda miss that

Time for another downer story, this stuff couldn’t possibly exist for me. ::lol
We always woke up at 6 am, grumpy and tired and school always started at 7 am. We never have breakfast either, it’s just dress up, take money to buy food during recess then be driven to school.
Didn’t help that I was always that kid who’s too school-obedient. School didn’t allow any kinds of phones or games or stuff so my psp was a no-go. Even then, I didn’t want attention from other kids. I wouldn’t even have that much time anyways. Periods have no breaks between them except recess which is barely ten minutes and you weren’t allowed to stay in class during recess (which believe it or not, IS what annoyed the most.)

My brother taking his psp and playing sonic rivals on it was pretty brave though, he was addicted.

That's so relatable, especially when there's nothing else to do

Also damn that's one fearless brother, never got caught about it?

Yeah, I was happy it all worked out. Honestly the truly weird part is that you can probably take enough food with you to host a party (literally btw, we did do this on a day when teachers weren’t attending. Best party) but devices are a big no no (except watches I guess). I actually did work up the courage to my phone once but my classmates were sooooo annoying, constantly asking me questions and teasing me saying I’ll get caught. Hell, a chill teacher joined in on the teasing. It was actually kinda funny in hindsight, but it was definitely annoying in the moment.

Teasing you because of the phone or something else ::firgirlsmirk
Also I love those kinds of teachers, one that we didn't deserve but needed

So, the way I initially played Pokemon, we knew one kid on the bus with a game boy, and one had "found" a copy of Pokemon Red. We would swap it around and play by committee on the bus ride to and from school, finally beating the Elite Four about halfway through the school year. Master Ball got used on an Onix, the kid taking his turn didn't know it was special and we all yelled too late, he barely made it to school alive.

Poor kid, hope he's doing well::bigboss

Hey pal, I used to wake up an hour earlier than necessary, just to go to the bar, near the bus stop, to play Double Dragon, Street Fighter II (I preferred Dalsim, ChunLi or Blanka) or Super Sidekicks, and sometimes I I even missed the bus, so as not to lose the coins already inserted into the arcade machine😅, then taking the next bus and thus arriving late and getting a demerit note. Shit! 🤦🏼‍♂️

IIRC I had some 30 or 20 minutes to kill before going to school and I'd waste them playing on my X360 while listening to Linkin Park. Games like DS1, Skate 3, CS:GO...

BTW actually I'm still on school but I've got no time to play anymore since I wake up at 6AM and school starts at 7.

I had to wake up 6 AM to go to school which started 7, it was quite near my home so I could just walk, so no time for games usually. Though in my final school years I sometimes suffered from insomnia or simply woke up a 5 AM instead for no specific reason and then I would play an hour of beatmania IIDX. It was oddly refreshing, would eat breakfast between songs and slowly feel more awake as the sun rised....

I use to grind levels in Final Fantasy Tactics: Wars of the lions, for the psp before the bus would come to pick me up. Sure I could have used that time to make friends with the kids in my neighborhood, but those levels came first to me.

Lego Batman 1 on the DS was my favorite choice

in 5th grade everyday before school i used to play Metal slug 4 on my ps2 and when i was in the peak of my edgy phase (8th grade i guess?) i used to play bully listening to some nu metal band

Probably Mario Kart for the DS, sometimes I’d even have enough time to play with a friend or two if we arrived at the school early enough.
Your school let you bring in portable game consoles? Jelly, not gonna lie. Except on exam days for some reason. Phones and game consoles were de facto fair game those days. Used to Pokemon battle with friends one year.
Eventually our school let us bring in our laptops for educational purposes, that was my first year in middle school. That year I played Strife: Quest for the Sigil, DOOM 1 and 2, and the various PC9801 Touhou games before class and during breaks.
I recall whenever we had a free lesson, the class would erupt into absolute chaos. I would leave the class and go to the empty, shaded concrete sports field and just play stuff on my own just to get some peace and quiet.
