Yes, we've got Tank Controls!

I love them. I wish survival horror games that are designed around them, along with fixed and panning camera angles continue to be released on a larger scale. But some other non-survival horror games like Onimusha and God Hand show how they can be applied to other games.

Speaking of mecha, the dual analogs patch for armored core 2 I got here completely blew my mind and made me actually like that game

Last year was the first time I tried the first Armored Core on my PS1, and it had the dual shock patch/mod (I got it from the Repo).

And yeah.. it makes a HUGE difference. I still had to customize the controls a bit, but now it is really enjoyable. I tried the original controls without the sticks, and most of the time I was just fighting the controller.

In the Action Button review of Boku no Natsuyasumi, Tim Rodgers speaks on this. For pre-rendered games with many different fixed camera angles, tank controls help you keep the character in perpetual motion between screens. It would have suited Final Fantasy VII-IX really well. Every time I play those games, I always inevitably start running the wrong way at some point when I cross over into a new scene.

Love me some old school Resident Evil. I can't say I hate them if they're done right and "feel" good to me. They "feel" good in Resident Evil 1 ps1 for example. I'm trying to think of examples that "feel" bad..for me The Fifth Element for ps1 comes to mind. I didn't like the way those controls felt, but it's not an entirely fixed camera game either which adds alot more problems to tank controls for me.

Tank controls can be great if executed right and the game is properly built around them.

This god damn thing. I'd bought it thinking Namco is doing this, so maybe Destroy All Monsters with some kinda gameplay thrown in? I'm there! Shit...

Sometimes I go back to play and old resident evil game and then I am like, oh yeah, tank controls ::sailor-embarrassed

Some aren't aware that the OG RE 4 actually had tank controls to a degree, he could turn or go forward and backward, you could angle the forward or backward momentum but was still very tanky. I've become stuck up with age ::cirnoshrug

I didn't mind when I was a kid but I just can't anymore ::surprised-pikachu

Remake RE forever!!

I think the first parasite eve game did a good job of making those controls feel smoother, for the sequel to just become a full RE clone right down to the controls. Not hating. ::nervous-prinny
