Did anyone try Foamstars?
images-49.jpeg

Most people disregarded it as a Splatoon clone, and while yeah it mostly is, I think it had potential, each character's gameplay felt unique and it had different game modes that made it feel worth playing

It is a bit chaotic and it does take forever to find matches, but it's fun, I still play a match or two every other day

Unfortunately there won't be any more new content updates but the servers will stay on "for the foreseeable future"

TL;DR: Opinions on Foamstars?

Edit: this is not retro at all. this may have been better on general discussion but I don't see how to delete the thread lol, my bad

I haven't heard of it, but it's cool that people are trying to create the games they like so they aren't caged to a single platform, in a sense. I have no idea how popular the original Splatoon even is.

Things don't get steamy, they get foamy and inky.

I had a ton of fun in the beta but I couldn't convince any of my friends to get it. Since it was getting endlessly slagged online for taking inspiration from Splatoon (the only game that is ever allowed to have you shoot something that affects terrain apparently) I figured it was gonna die quickly and didn't bother getting invested. It is a shame because it is well designed, looks appealing enough and its wrinkles on a Splatoon-esque shooter are really cool. The ability to sort of terraform levels and create makeshift cover/getaway type situations kind of reminded me of Fracture for the 360 (in a good way), if anyone remembers that game.

This tendency people have to just slap a "clone" label on everything that is inspired by a different IP is getting tiresome these days. I was browsing Steam and the number of threads that have this kind of short sighted way of thinking is frankly appalling; the fact this ruins the chances of good iterations of existing concepts succeeding is really disappointing.

The main character in all the promo material heavily reminds me of Akali (specifically the K/DA version) from League of Legends, to the point where whenever I see an ad for the game, I assume it’s some form of crossover before realizing it isn’t. Am I the only one who sees that!? If I were the LoL guys, I’d sue ASAP.

No interest in the actual game, I’m afraid. ?

Yeah, it is still fun when you can find a match lol
And the foam changing the terrain did really make the matches have a little more strategy than just covering the map

I see it now...

I played the beta then later the full game, I thought it was decent enough.

It was just missing something that made it something I'd want to play regularly
