I haven't played this game but I don't miss anything even though I only played the Original Eternal Champions and its Expansion (Challenge of the Dark Side).

On paper it had some good ideas, but the overreliance on charged special attacks makes them impractical to use much of the time, and the blatant cheating by the CPU exacerbates it even further. The most egregious example of such being how you require "Inner Strength" to use special moves, but a computer-controlled opponent is free to spam them as much as they want, even with a blatantly empty IS gauge.

Still, credit where it's due: EC is much better at being a fighting game than X-Perts is at being a beat 'em up. Larcen's game was fairly decent, but Shadow deserved way better than this crude, fugly little spinoff.

Never a big fan of 1 on 1 fighers... but i did like Eternal Champions. Still have my Sega CD version of it. But they didn't do a very good job trying to branch out the characters sadly, X-Perts is X-Blah...
You might like Guardian Heroes and Yu Yu Hakusho Sunset Fighters then. Those are fighting games that go up to 4 players that can hop in the foreground and background.

I'll admit that Eternal Champions can be quite unfair at times (thankfully there's a hack here on the site which helps tone down the difficulty), but I'll still play it when given the chance and opportunity to do so alongside Kid Chameleon. If there's one thing I like about the original Genesis game, it's the OST (Blade, MidKnight, and the Training Room themes are my absolute favorites). Said OST proved quite influential since the '90s rap group Bone Thugs-n-Harmony sampled both the Bad Ending and Character Bios themes for their "E1999 Eternal" album's tracks "Crossroads" and "Eternal" respectively.

EC had an interesting premise and impressive graphics and sound, but fighting games need the gameplay component to be solid and feel they didn't quite hit the mark

So this is one of the only 2 spin offs to the Eternal Champions games. The other one was about Larcen on the Game Gear. This was supposed to be a whole franchise but it never took off. Sega should bring it back and give Eternal Champions another go!
I agree with you about Sega needing to bring back Eternal Champions for a second run, especially since they're doing the same thing with a couple of their other IPs as well. Also if you want to know, a film adaptation of Eternal Champions is supposedly being developed right now.

Extra note: the Game Gear title that features Larcen is called Chicago Syndicate.
