FUCK Wily Capsule 7. Absurdly annoying wall of a boss. Granted in normal playthroughs you can just stock up on E Tanks and not just beat it in a battle of attrition, but man oh man that first time I reached the end of MM7 with only 1 E Tank it was one of the hardest fights I'd ever experienced in a platformer. Of course, grinding out having to do it on 1 life with 0 E Tanks for the Legacy Collection challenge helped me learn its patterns so now I can beat it with just a single E Tank on lock (very rarely can I do it on one health bar), but man oh man what a spike in difficulty! Wily Capsule 7 really pissed me off the most. Those stupid Fire Orbs, can burn you, the Ice Orbs can Freeze you and the Lightning Orb can shock you all in total can take a chunk of your health! His weakness is the Charged Up Wild Coil but his true weakness is in fact the Freeze Cracker. Wily this is why you failed.

Fuck this bitch! She blew away all my magic that I stocked ultimately fucking up my party's stats, summoning GFs is a big no no as she will kill them, even worse she will kill one of your party Members as she randomly pick them as I have to end up resetting the game which sucked. Ultimecia can take Griever and stick it up her ass!
I had turned a card (I think Laguna's?) into 100 hero drinks, and just started chugging them for bosses like Omega weapon and Ultimecia. Unlimited invincibility for everyone kinda makes everything easy. For added fun you can cast Aura beforehand and start spamming Limit Breaks as well. Invincible Squall using Renzokuken and Lion Heart every turn makes for a very short fight.
granted, it's been a long time since i've beaten him, so take this with a grain of salt, but to me it feels like his attacks are extremely ineffectual. this would be bad on it's own for a final boss but when you combine it with how insanely tanky he is, being able to easily eat your entire ammo supply like 50 times over unless you have the ryno (and even then it takes an eternity), it becomes an agonizing slog.
the process of fighting him looked like this for me:
-dodge basic-ass mid-speed single projectiles while holding the fire button
-dash to whichever ammo crate spawn point did it's thing
-be in and out so quick the mines he shits out don't have time to detonate
-dash to azimuth
-repeat
the only times i died to this boss were when i was bored and barely paying attention and didn't notice that parts of the floor broke until i was already dashing full speed into the bottomless pits they left behind.
his voice lines are cool but since i was playing in the living room and didn't want to bother anyone they were too quiet to pay attention to.
Growing up is realising that the Bloodrayne Final Boss kinda sucks lol.
It’s so disjointed because once you get rid of the decoy final boss you have to deal with the REAL one and it’s super tedious and boring, you rummage around for weapons than you do fighting the guy.
I love the concept of fighting two enemies at the same time but execution could’ve been better.

I love that game, but damn that comment made me laugh
She sucks as a final boss, they went full on making her a pain, I was nervous fighting her even with gameshark codes as she was so cheap.
That said, it's so satisfying to beat her and get treating to a long ending that ties everything up nicely. I really didn't want to say goodbye to those characters.
As for bad last bosses, Conan 2007 has a last boss so bad that I get that far and stop playing.
Sonic adventure 1 and 2 had annoying last bosses for sonic in the case of adventure 1 and the super sonic ending in adventure 2 was so drawn out and annoying.
Devil may cry 2 had a dogshit last boss.
Any SNK fighting game pre KOF 99, specifically Rugal and his input reading.
Sonic 2, never actually managed to beat Sonic 2 as I never played it with gameshark codes. Got to the end many times.
Sigma is Megaman X3 is genuinely terrible.
Soul Edge in the arcade mode of Soul blade.
Wily in Megaman 7 was just very very badly designed. It's beyond hard, more like poorly programmed due to it have such a short dev time. Megaman and Bass was much easier than it outside of level design difficulty. Finished that with bass one night that I couldn't sleep on the DS, I find my tenacity increases in the early morning hours!
50% of games prior to 2003 had awful last bosses though. There was even a sentiment of expecting a difficult boss, so that if a boss wasn't cheap, it was a let down?? I still don't understand that.
I play games in easy mode to this day out of habit, and I say that as someone that beat X3 as an 8 year old on PS1, still amazed looking back on that, I platinumed Nioh and finished all souls games bar 3, even elden ring and bloodborne. I hate hard games but the gameplay and charm draws me in, why do I do this to myself!!
this mainly had to due with the fact that video rental stores over here in america would let people rent games. this isn't something that you could do over in japan. you would have to either buy the game or borrow it from a friend.
over here, you would pay 5 bucks and have a game or movie to play/watch for 5-7 days depending on the store. a lot of games could be beaten in that amount of time. most people won't buy a game after they have beaten it; and most would rather pay $5 instead of $20 - $60 to purchase it.
so, how would one circumvent such a thing? it's simple. either make the game longer, or harder; so more time is required to beat it.
you can beat castlevania 1 in about 20 minutes. it would take a few weeks to get skilled enough to do that in a single run. 5 days wouldn't be enough time to rent it and do that without spending a few straight hours playing it. i've played and beat castlevania 1. it took several days with breaks and save states to keep my progress while i cooled down from the anger and rage the enemies kept inflecting on me. i did it, and nowadays i try to do it in one go. usually doesn't go well, but i mostly play until i've had enough.
ninja gaiden 1 could probably be beaten in a half hour or so, but going by what i've heard about it, it would take months or years to get good enough to do that. i wouldn't be surprised iif it had that level of difficulty just because of video rental stores.
The final boss of the otherwise-mediocre Lord of Magna: Maiden Heaven was horrific. He took two whole hours to chip down, all the while he dealt enough damage to take down every character that isn't the very last one you get in a single hit. It was a slog of a fight, and a horrific ending that I only got through to say I did. I threw the game in my room's trash bin after I beat it (I fished it back out so I could sell it to gamestop).
Lucifer from Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne HD Port is also on my shit list. But that's less that he's bad so much as he's obscenely difficult due to the version the port uses giving him Diarahan (thankfully, he only uses it once) and buffing Root of Evil to also strip your buffs. Like it wasn't already very dangerous.
